We have several long time members on this site that have made, or would make good moderators. Unfortunately, much like wanting folks to run for political office, IMO, those best suited usually want nothing to do with filling those roles.

This was one of the major problems we have had in getting the best qualified folks to volunteer their time.

IMO, the only thing that gets these types of folks to volunteer is a sense of duty and love for the community here we all share.
