Ted Cruz SHREDS Jack Dorsey, Twitter CEO

Removing sectinon 230 protections means they will never leave a court room, ever

And your point is? Actions have consequences. Other businesses don't have this protection and they are not constantly 'in court' fighting lawsuits.

I have no sympathy for this billionaire Socialist Democrat Super Pac 'shield' / Censor for Democrats / the Democratic party.

Twitter wont censor holocaust deniers or the Ayatollah, but they censor POTUS AND THE PRESS SECRETARY.

One thing we all can do is stop using those platforms.
Agreed. THAT is what needs to happen.

OTH. . . if you have the government regulate twitter? At that point, you MAKE them into a monopoly and give them that power and image of a public utility, you give them special status at that point.

There are certain companies in silicon valley, which, I really do not believe care who wins, but, yes, they are purposely meddling in the election, throwing their weight behind one candidate or another, so that AFTER the election, the government will move, and regulate them.

Once it does, THEY, will then become the status quo.

Remember, once the government went in to break up ATT, or Standard Oil, etc., the folks that owned the companies only became MORE wealthy, and owned more companies and more stock, and became MORE powerful, not less. . .

To become regulated and a state sanctioned monopoly by the government? THAT is what any of these fulks really desire. . . .

. . I think it is all just purposeful trolling.

I am less interested in individual wealth and more interested in the free exchange of information among people.

If I want to DM my buddy a NY Post article on Hunter Biden, I should be able to. I can text him or talk to him over Verizon. Verizon does not censor texts or phone calls.

Verizon is given the right to broadcast over public airwaves, i cannot go set up my own cell network tomorrow. There are a finite amount of spaces in the bands.

Your land line provider is given a monopoly and subsidies with the land line, uses public land.

Truckers have to be common carriers because they use roads directly for their commerce.

Twitter has no such hook, they are not part of the commons.

You have a right to send messages through the air not through twitter servers

By that standard every messaging service is a "common carrier"

I'm not comparing them, OP is.

Dipshit

All i ekep saying is how the comparison doesn't work

My god you are fucking stupid, even if you didn't read what OP said. I'm specifically saying they're not comparable

Anyone who supports this shit is just some pleb who has no fuckign idea how the world around them works. Just pure stupidity

So you've just raised the cost of business on the internet exponentially and our GDP is going to drop 10% in a depression we haven't seen since 1929?

And most won't get sued, they'll just shut down before the suits can ever come in.

like usmessageboard

It will be gone

No democrats have just been threatening them they are moderating to try to prevent regulation

10 or even 5 years ago they (big tech) would have all said we just drive engagement and do as little moderation as possible

Porn, snuff, etc

What republicans should have done is thrown a fucking fit to protect big tech's right to drive engagement. Instead we got the sort of moderation that would prevent the left from wanting to intervene.

This is just a bad faith argument. Their money comes from engagement. Moderation runs counter to that goal. They did not want to do it

Twitter cannot get maximum value out fo their users while doing things that aren't directly driving engagement. Same with facebook and all the rest. Moderation is antithetical to their goals unless they think removing content will increase overall engagement. Which is why they remove porn

Monopoly twitter doesn't make more money than free to moderate how tehy want twitter.

Wow.

That post was a huge pile of horse shit.

It totally runs counter to the OP. It has absolutely nothing to do with censoring the NY Post. If the NY Post's content would drive profit, then you would think they would allow it.

. . . so naw. . my take is the correct one. Twitter wants regulations that it's competitors can't afford so it will be a monopoly.

This is enough to trigger law makers on the left and the right to support that.

What competitors do you think twitter is worried about? lol

Now google is huge they do a lot of monopolistic shit

Tiwtter is not that big, nor do they have any real incentive to crush anyone. They have no competitors.

This would make sense in a world twitter execs ever worried about other firms taking their market share, in 2020 it's absurd.

In the future...Maybe not.

Yea welcome to the free market bitch, lol

the irony of these takes

if you wanted him to treat republicans better you should have either scared him or protected him, you did neither. And he doesn't give a fuck about you.

*shrug*

Much more concerned about what Ted's wife is up to than i am what dorsey is doing over at twitter.

So you've just raised the cost of business on the internet exponentially and our GDP is going to drop 10% in a depression we haven't seen since 1929?

How much do you pay to use Twitter?

How much does the Average American pay Twitter per month to use the Internet?

And if Twitter's tax-payer funded protections, allowing it to be a Chicom-like tool to censor the media, to silence public opinion and opposition/differing opinions, and attempt to control people's thoughts and actions is suddenly stripped, how is the entire US GDP going to PLUNGE and the US go into a Depression.

Holy Shit....who knew Twitter and their Chicom-like policies were the cornerstone of the entire US GDP and the only thing keeping us from going into a Depression.

Bwuhahahahahahahaha........ Dude, take your medication and get off your mom's laptop.

Dorsey is a monopolist. He doesn't give a shit about politics as much as he cares about business. . . he is playing a role, don't get suckered in by it.

It is a long con. He WANTS the government to regulate his business so it will have total control over the market. The best way to destroy Mastadon, Reddit, tumblr, Gab, Snapchat, etc., or any of the others at this point? Is through onerous government regulations.

This is epic. Ted is spot on. I challenge anyone to dispute where Ted is factually not accurate. These Tech giants need to lose 230 pro
tections immediately.

So ted cruz king of the market is confused why a corporation would think it was within their rights to dictate what is and is not shown on their platform? lol

the guys wife is in wall street if memory serves. works for goldman sachs.

Maybe don't use him next time

Do you not know what a platform is?

You mean jack dorsey's business? Is that what you're referring to? lol

just because it grew huge doesn't mean the state has an inherent claim to it.

So, you don't know.
Take the others advice
Educate yourself a little

No it just doesnt' have a usable legal definition in this context

What you're trying to say as Angus is, is it'sa "common carrier" because that's the only way your argument makes sense. But they're jsut private servers. THey're not a common carrier

Platform has so many meanings in tech, lol

When you CENSOR AND EDIT, YOU ARE A PUBLISHER.

I AM DONE WITH YOU.

No you're not, that's what section 230 is for

That would mean usmessageboards is a publisher and can be sued

You've just broken the internet and raised the cost to host this site exponentially

By that standard anyone who allows user content and moderates at all is a publisher. Which means everyone needs lawyers they can't afford.

Say goodbye to the internet we ahve

Now you wanna break it and say we shouldn't do it, tha'ts fine. But they are not common carriers. They may be publishers. But agian if they're publishers so is this site and the internet as we know it is over

I am not humoring morons anymore. Its not fun to have to tell someone to educate themselves who is ARROGANTLY STUPID.

I teed it up for him. Now its up to him. If he wont educate himself, he is willingly ignorant and not worth our time.

You odn't undersatnd the difference between teh state letting verizon take up airwaves on 3g and twitter running a website through private property.

you're a boomer know your place, idiot

"It's a common carrier just like verizon"

Oh yea they're a common carrier on their own private land? What? lol
Yeah, keep making excuses and defending the most blatant neon sign Politically biased Censoring since Nazi Germany and modern-day China.

The poster is not having a good faith discussion.

boomers confused about how the internet works and what a giant loss to GDP the changes they want would cause accusing me of not acting in good faith?

What?

Two minutes ago you were calling twitter a common carrier lol. Which is quite frankly irrelevant to what you want. By no rational standard are they a common carrier.

Revoking section 230 and not replacing it with something very similar would just break the internet and cause a depression

No one is talking about shutting Twitter down, just removing government protections they were given when they were a small 'Start-up', like Google and Facebook.

I believe Twitter should be free to censor, support, block, or delete they want....and Americans and businesses / news like the NY Post should have the right to sue the shit out of them.

God bless America and our freedoms and rights!

:p

Removing sectino 230 protections means they will never leave a court room, ever

You won't shut it down

The bill for the lawyers will shut it down, they'll look and say "whelp we can't afford this shutterdown bois"

WHOOOOSH

Yea LEO won't come and take twitter servers. No one was implying that

No one will take usmessageboard servers either. THey'll just shut down because it's now* a vastly greater legal liability. You're opening up every website with user content to civil suit, that means you need to retain lawyers and budget that in. Which means basically every business plan on the net involving user generated content goes up in smoke.

Youtube doesn't even make money as it is. Imagine if they were fielding thousands of suits a day

Maybe they shouldn't have abused their power
They could get malpractice insurance i suppose.

They are as much a common carrier as the multitude of services that connect people from around the world to their servers. The fact is Twitter would not exist without those outside services, that would include the services provided by the NY Post.

the guys wife is in wall street if memory serves. works for goldman sachs.

They are as much a common carrier as the multitude of services that connect people from around the world to their servers. The fact is Twitter would not exist without those outside services, that would include the services provided by the NY Post.

.

What if Verizon refused to allow twitter on their platform? I bet Jack would be crying his ass off about censorship.

Big Tech protecting Joe because he knows with Joe as POTUS, 230 protection will never go away.

The will act as a publisher and have the protections of a platform.

Imagine if any newspaper could write or say whatever they wanted with no consequences. Many already seem to, but remember, Nick Sandman got MILLIONS FOR DEFAMATION.

PUBLISHERS AND PLATFORMS ARE DIFFERENT.

JACK NEEDS TO TURN OFF HIS CENSORSHIP ALGORITHYMS NOW.
