Pardon the voice of this reporter.

A college instructor and a high school instructor. The high school instructor actually taunted the children he was supposed to be educating, if they were "MAGA."

My profession is sullied by people like this so often that I sometimes contemplate leaving it. But then I remember who I would be leaving the students with.

We really need to get government out of the education system. I say that the amount spent per-child be given out in vouchers for parents to spend on the private school of their choice.

I just looked it up and found that $20,500 was spent per student in Montgomery Cty, MD for public school. The average tuition for private school in the same county is $22,000.

Why should parents be forced to send their kids to government indoctrination camps?

Private schools usually do not have transportation included in their tuition. Are you going to drive your kids to and from school everyday? What makes you think your kid can pass the entrance exams? What if it is a Catholic school and they don't want Jewish kids attending?

Do the private schools pay for qualified teachers or can anybody teach?

They aren't forced. You can send your kids to any private school you want, just don't ask me as a taxpayer to pay for it.

Most people can’t afford private school, which is why the taxpayer money being spent on government indoctrination camps would be better given to parents.

As far as Catholic school not accepting a Jewish kid, well the Jewish kid will go elsewhere.

As far as transportation, high school kids can take the public bus.

and the price would go down if enrollment surged

Too bad, so sad. Maybe you should have studied harder in school so you would make more money!

I once taught in a county with a significant Catholic population. The Diocese had a K-8 school, but no high school. The closest high school was two counties away and an hour and a half bus ride. Where would they go? What if there are no Jewish schools?

What if there are no public buses?

You really have not thought this through, have you?

This is off topic, and detracts from the thread, so I will refrain from any more comments! Thanks for your input!

Yeah, right!

I taught in Jacksonville FL for 10 years. The city had one Catholic High school. I stared teaching in 1996. They started planning for a new Catholic high school on the western side of town. It was completed and had their first students in 2005. In case you are counting, it took 9 years. They did not graduate their first class until 2009. There was still a waiting list longer than the enrollment at the new school when I left. There was still a waiting list at the older school also!

Seems the price was driven by the slow progress

The public schools in Jacksonville are good.

A ringing endorsement of government-as-parent.

Keep in mind that the teacher who told "MAGA" kids to go home and cry about Charlie Kirk was considered "highly qualified." Presumably, the college professor was even more so.

Qualified only means as much as the people setting the standards for qualification.

In Florida, we had private school elementary classes being taught by high school dropouts. Would you want them teaching your children?

Some schools are better than others. My high school was about average, but compared to other parts of the country, we were exceptional. Jacksonville has three of the top 100 high schools in the nation on US News and World Report's listings back when I taught there.

No, but the beauty of private schools is that if one of them has a teacher to which I object, I can choose another private school. Or . . . maybe even make a complaint that would be heard, and that I would not end up on an FBI watch list for making.

do they only accept Catholics?

I actually don’t know. But I’d be surprised if a Jewish parent would send their kid to Catholic School. They have Catholic teachings as part of the program.
