Think of what you and your employers paid into it under your name, and one major surgery that costs 250K or more. Since it's inception, we've grown older and older as time went on. Fuck it, I am out of the workforce and currently the average life expectancy for men and women is 76 and 81 respectively. So raise the retirement age if you want. I think it would be more effective to make the government more accountable for responsible stewardship of the fund though. Hit hard how? Biden is going to spend 2 trillion. Will that hurt you personally or financially? No it won't; it won't to most people. If we had a consumption tax specific for bringing down the debt, and increased it as the debt increases, then people will start taking a stand against this spending.

Raising the retirement age is okay for somebody sitting behind the desk, but there are a lot of fields such as construction where that isn't practical.
