Talking of Wales, what do you think of?

15th post
My maternal grandfather's family came from the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea, and many of them traveled to Wales to find mates (I have seen the marriage records). The Isle of Man is less than 1/3 the size of Long Island in NY. My relatives knew that many people on the island were likely cousins several times removed, although they didn't know exactly who. So they avoided inbreeding by travelling to Wales to find mates. Wales and the Isle of Man both have Gaelic roots, so there was still a strong cultural familiarity that they could relate to among Welsh folk. Although I'm predominantly German and Polish, I'm also approximately 7% Welsh as a result of my Manx ancestors breeding with mainlanders.

Edit: Nearly all of my grandfather's family had left Isle of Man by the early 20th century. While many if not most came to America via Providence, RI, many of them also went to Wales and I have some distant cousins there today according to Ancestry.com.
