Sweden (yes, that Sweden) now has zero net immigration. What should we make of that?

The Swedish propensity to go their own way was also on full display this week when the Swedish government announced that for the first time in 50 years, there was net negative immigration in the country, meaning that more people emigrated from Sweden than immigrated to Sweden.

The Ministry of Justice attributed this trend to a decline in the number of asylum-seekers to the country, coupled with a decline in residence permits issued.

Indeed, the government asserted that "Sweden is on track to have the lowest number of asylum seekers since 1997," which stands out as rather extraordinary in the context of western Europe. The U.K., for example, sees 500-700 asylum-seekers arriving per day, typically on cross-channel dinghies.

Okay, it sounds good but what does "zero net immigrants" really mean?

Sounds like the type of phrase used when someone is trying to fudge the numbers.

If they've grown tired of their women being raped by Muslims and stopped accepting immigrants then why not just say that? :dunno:

Of course, the country is run mostly by women so plain talk might be beyond them. ;)

They were also the only country on the planet not to shut down their economy for Covid.

Probably one of the best governments in the West, better than what the US has by leaps and bounds.

2023, emigration increased among people born in countries such as Iraq, Somalia and Syria. That same year, net migration numbers for people born in these countries were negative.
Sweden´s future

Sweden is very into that nanny welfare state socialism.
The Scandinavian countries have come out and said that they are NOT socialist nations and that they are free-market capitalist nations with "some" social programs. The rich are also taxed less than the middle-class. Their reasoning on that is they feel that taxing the wealthy companies more would stifle innovation.
The problem with their social programs, is that when massive immigration occurs, it affects the availability for the overall public to continue having ease of access to the various social services.

Sweden significantly lowered its refugee quota from 5,000 in 2022, which was imposed by the EU, and it only resettled 540 refugees in 2023. The Sweden Democrats did a great job on lowering the nation's refugee intake by 90%, saying no to the EU refugee mandate imposed on major EU countries.

Since coming to power in October 2022, the Moderate Party, with Ulf Kristersson as prime minister as part of a three-party minority coalition, with backing from the far-right Sweden Democrats, has vowed to crack down on immigration.

It means that the same amount of people immigrated out and immigrated in, thus having a net zero effect on the country.

For example...100 people move in, 100 people move out, you have a zero net.

Basic math you should have learned if you would have finished high school

I don't believe them. Nothing is ever 0 net.
