This is great stuff. The drivers want better pay and better conditions and are making themselves unavailable between 4 an 10 tis evening.
Its technically not a strike because they are not guarenteed any work due to the nature of their contracts .
It isnt safe for someone to be driving a taxi for 70 hours a week. Uber are profiting from a slave economy. They have a place but not at the expense of safety and human dignity.

To the barricades comrades.

Amateurs. I Uber strike every day.

In the US, perhaps with Bidenomic's reign of error being over, Americans can afford to buy cars again. MAGA

/----/ "Uber are profiting from a slave economy"
It's not slave labor if the drivers can take their cars and quit. And many drive for Lyft at the same time.
Drivers have every right to demand better conditions, but no one is forcing them to stay.

Maybe they are unqualified for better paid work ? Those guys deserve decent treatment.

Why does better pay for these people threaten you so much ?
/----/ That was a bizarre reply. I encourage everyone to find better-paying work. I was a freelancer for a decade. I worked as a bartender for tips. I moved around finding the best-paying gig.

Good for you. But some people will fight for better terms. Otherwise things never improve.

/---/ Since it's a 1099 job, they can fight by not taking Uber rides and switching to Lyft. That will get Uber's attention.

I am not really sure what the indecent treatment really is here. They guy in the article complaining he has to be available 60-70 hours a week isn't actually working 60-70 hours a week. He could get another job than rolling the dice as a gig worker but chooses not to.

My regular taxi driver was bulgarian and spoke little english. But he drove with a blanket over his legs to keep warm and was on dialysis.
Not many employers would accomodate that. Especially now DEI has been banned.
It wasnt iber.
The point is he was keeping his family fed and housed and worokng hard. He shou;d be protected from parasite employers.

Taxi drivers aren't rideshare drivers. It is a total different employment situation. To me, a rideshare driver thinking they are somehow entitled to money when they are not driving would be the same thing as an Etsy retailor thinking they are entitled to money for the time they spend waiting for someone to place an order.

Good old zero hours contract, Capitalism at it's worst same as hire and fire, these bastards would turn the clock back to the 19th century if they could get away with it, problem is some of the workers are complicit in their own conditions being attacked, they have always been there the miners strike brought that scum to the surface.
