Streak of 30 votes against gay marriage to end!

If the voters want it, they should be able to vote for it, without imposing their lack of morality on the whole nation.

Nobody's forcing anyone into gay marriage. How is it being imposed?

On another note, MD used to be the state where everyone went for a quickie marriage. The chapels may be opening again!

It is being imposed if a gay couple validly married in one state, moves to another state that also has to consider them married.

Still doesn't effect anyone but them. You're not going to be asked to give them anniversary presents, are you? :eusa_eh:

Good for Maryland

But you should not be allowed to vote on what rights others are allowed to have

Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for supper

In a way, you do, its just they are usually enshrined in the consitution via the amendment process, which requires voting.

Are photographers going to be sued if they decline to provide services? Will landlords have any penalty if they don't rent to same sex couples? Will the bakery be able to refuse to bake wedding cakes with two grooms? Will private schools be able to refuse to admit the adopted children of same sex couples? Will privately owned businesses be able to decline spousal coverage?

It doesn't affect anyone but them? Really????? The facts would suggest otherwise.

None of our civil rights advances would have passed if put up for a straight vote

Slavery would not have been overruled
Women would not have the vote (only men would have been allowed to vote on the issue)
Civil Rights legislation would not have passed

Popular opinion was against all these issues....Voting on what rights others are allowed to have is assinine

Can you currently do that if you object to providing service to blacks?

I still can't comprehend why two law abiding, taxpaying citizens of the same sex living in a supposedly free country shouldn't be allowed to have a legally binding relationship that encompasses all of the legal rights of a heterosexual couple.

Furthermore....I also can't comprehend the problem with a church that CHOOSES to recognize that legally binding relationship and performing the ceremony of marriage for them.....as long as it's voluntary.

This isn't about morals.....gays are here whether we like it or not....whether DOMA is alive or dead. What this is about is taxation without representation. They pay into the system, but aren't afforded the same rights that I have as a heterosexual.

Leave morality to God. It's his job to judge us....not ours.

None of those things involve morality, except that those you seem to be supporting would be violating "do unto others". :nono:

With the first two items, they did have to pass votes, namely to create the amendments that made them law. Granted the first was after a civil war that required states to pass them before being re-admitted, but it was still passed via congressional votes, followed by ratification via the states.

As for the Civil Rights legislation, the foundation for most of it was laid out by the 13-15th amendments. Here the courts only corrected a gross misjustice (Plessey V. Fergueson) that was already consitutional law, but was perverted by an activist conservative court.

Race is not the same as behavior.

I don't like people who preach on street corners. Can I get a wut-wut?

A lesbian couple moved in next door a couple years ago.

Property values plummetted, the sun refused to come out, dogs began sleeping with cats, mysterious lights began appearing in the sky, water ran uphill, there were tornadoes everywhere!

I tremble to think what would happen if they filed a married tax return.

Do photographers refuse to take their pictures now? Do bakeries refuse to sell to them now? Do landlords refuse to rent to them now?

If gay marriage goes into effect? Yes, I would think that employers would have to abide by spousal coverage. That's the only part of your post that has any validity to it at all.

Gay people already buy cakes, get their pictures taken, live in rentals and have their adopted kids attend school. Those are false arguments.

At the personal level....I don't care for or condone homosexuality....But as a sinner in God's eyes.....I surely can't judge them, nor can I sit back and let fellow sinners in the eyes of God dictate discriminatory policy towards other sinners just because they feel that "those people's" sins are worse than theirs.

I ain't giving no insurance to no negroes and homos. No, sir! I hates 'em.
