It's all just political posturing....you cannot de-fund them because no city is an enclave to itself. All municipalities are complex businesses that take orders from Banks, Insurance companies and Ultimately from the Governor of the state. You cannot have an UN-INSURED municipality adjacent to all of its bordering municipalities who are INSURED.....the Insurance companies are not stupid...they realize that a city line is meaningless to criminals.

Should a municipality decide to try they would very quickly be in a court room trying to explain to a state or federal judge why they have suddenly become a Robbers Den and a Rodent collection center dangerous to all of their neighboring municipalities and one of the ultimate consequences could be the redraw of city lines. The insurance companies who control public policy in those areas would simply cancel all coverage....the State Government would be Obliged to do something up to and including assign state troopers to the area which would then be billed to the municipality....so the de-funding actually never happens it gets dispersed in a different way. Yeah that's right its a meaningless joke that can never actually take place...it only happens in word play and political posturing its not something that can actually be done.

DEFUND THE POLICE DEPARTMENTS.......LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.......it is to die laughing for....at first I took it seriously until I just took a deep breath and did some thinking about it......yeah....it's pretty funny.

It's all about "muh feelz."

Towns and cities have shut down police departments in the past. Usually for economic reasons. However it has been done. More than once. And not just to small one horse towns.

Camden NJ disbanded their police department. They created a larger more community oriented force and retrained the officers and the entire county was involved.

The result has been a sharp decrease in crime. They stopped judging cops on tickets and arrests. They wanted the cops walking around talking to people. Getting the people to know them and they would know the people.

Camden showed it can work. It merely requires a different perspective on the part of the leaders and cops. Focus on being a part of the community and focus on serving and being a guardian.

A reduction of the boots or knees on necks and a reduction in crime.

Privatization is an option though. Cities have done this.

It's a stupid slogan.

How about we de-fund the narco-state and the war on Americans through a militarized police force and private, for profit prisons. De-fund the DEA and the surveillance state?

Agreed....but there must be protection else all banks and insurance companies will shut the place right down.

Actually the force is not disbanded.....they still have a police union and an IA department. There are more officers costing the municipality more money.....this is a simple equation....the answer is not less policing the answer is more policing which is what Camden is doing....the new public relations outreach is something that should always have been in place....it was common at the turn of the last century btw. Disbanded is an inaccurate word....re-organized maybe? Also I checked the arrest records ...yes they are down but there are still plenty of violent criminals there who need to be stopped and not coddled. The idea that you can backyard bbq your way to peace and security is just ludicrous.....you will always need force and force comes with consequences....that simple.

I do not know if that is true and if you are from there. Camden is a ghetto. A bad one. The citizens of the county pay through the nose for the city. The people of the state pay through the nose for the ghetto cities in New Jersey. If you work in jobs that are "privileged" you are doing okay. Atlantic City blew billions and billions and billions of dollars from gambling. The city should have been near completely rebuilt. Nada! The garden state is what it says. Outside the city lines pay for all. High paying monopoly jobs and government jobs are the ticket to low complaints. Private jobs vary on the costs to live there. Many a tradesman are not the happiest with the tax structure. The cities should be doing better. And they are not.

Camden was a ghetto prior to disbanding the police. Are you saying that you believe a city has to stop being a ghetto if they get rid of their police?

Nope. You need to learn how to read. The PD was disbanded and new better one was built in its place. The focus is on community service. It doesnt employ the same racist cops.

Camden is a dangerous and drug infested ghetto. There are areas of our nation as you know in cities where the drugs are purchased. And that is multi cultural as you know to. Death knows no color in bad dealings. No screwing over anyone in those. I want things to improve also. I suspect people who rule an area for 95% of the time for 75 years and raise taxes many times over to combat poverty and want and what never leaves.

You're full of shit and do not know what you are talking about.... The only person that was removed or demoted was the police chief.... In any case the department was not de-funded because that is not possible in a municipality no matter what the idiotic headlines for idiotic readers say. The number of officers was increased and none of the officers were fired simply because they were a part of the other arrangement. Are their energies being re-directed? Sure...but there are still plenty of rapes, murders, drug deals and illegal activities going on there. There is still an operational chief....someone who calls the shots and is recognized as a vested arresting authority. There is still a Police Union and an Internal Affairs department....Good god you are a ninny and a gullible fool. Note....they are police officers not social workers so the article's title is a functional lie. If they said re-organized or given new social training fine....so be it that's a good thing that I will never criticize. What I criticize is lame brained idiots like you who try to equate the word disbanded with discontinued or de-funded in order to make a straw man argument. You cannot ....not have police officers.... in a municipality because the banks and insurance companies would simply shut that place down totally. The Idea of firing the police department and replacing everyone in it is a childish whim that you dreamed up on your own....it's not there in the article moron...because it cannot be there. But there are headlines out there for retards who cannot do a single moment of critical thinning and that headline found a retard.
