The company announced Thursday it is temporarily laying off 900 workers at five U.S. plants and halting production at one each in Mexico and Canada.

Denny Butler is Vice President of the United Auto Workers Local 685, representing Stellantis workers in Indiana.

"We've got a group of 470-some people out there that are starting to worry. They don't know if they need to go find another job or not. That's the frustrating part because it's our job to be able to help and reach out and guide those people and give them an honest opinion on what they need to do and we can't. That's frustrating part."

Trump broadened tariffs to a 10% baseline on all U.S. imports, with higher rates for countries with the highest U.S. trade deficits.

This followed last week’s announcement of 25% duties on all auto imports, which shocked the global auto industry.

In a letter sent to employees on Thursday morning, Stellantis' Americas chief said the company is quote 'continuing to assess the medium- and long-term effects of these tariffs' but had 'decided to take some immediate actions.'

On Thursday, Stellantis shares dropped 9.3% in New York.

Shares of Ford, General Motors, and Tesla also fell sharply after the tariff announcements.

MAGA winning.

Really? Strange. Tariffs don't apply to cars made in the USA.

Trump wants the US to be like Russia with everyone driving a LADA. Except for the millionaire/billionaire elitists.

Their market share will be eaten up by competitors.

Strong leadership in a viable company can overcome any conditions which impact competitors as well. If they cannot steer the ship to the shores maybe they are not fit for their position

Shaky for years, but now not stability in the market to even project whether they can garner enough market share to continue production at lower rates, without knowing what the costs actually are, so as to figure price and return on investment. Trump may wll be their death knell before it is over. I cannot say this is definitely a bad thing, possibly losing that brand in the near future.

The stock market will bounce back. There are too many nervous nellies posting here. :)

If Harris was president doing this you'd be saying this is the end of America.

If the product is made here, there isn't any tariffs..right??

/—-/ Fact, or you can post otherwise.
Chrysler has a reliability rating of 3.5 out of 5.0, ranking it 11th out of 32 car brands. The average annual repair cost for Chrysler vehicles is $608, which is slightly above average compared to other brands, indicating that while they may have some reliability issues, they are generally manageable with proper maintenance
