Statue of Columbus Removed.

Columbus never stepped foot on the continental North America
Actually, that is wildly believed but is incorrect. Columbus on his 4th and last voyage, landed his ship and went ashore on what today is the country of Honduras, sailed south exploring the coastline, and later went ashore again in the land known today as Panama.
Both are part the the North American continent. ...

Man who discovered America, greatness in my book.

Are they going to rename the city of Columbus, too?
lol What about D.C.?

Columbia is a New Latin toponym, in use since the 1730s with reference to the Thirteen Colonies which would go on to form the United States. It originated from the name of Italian explorer Christopher Columbus and from the ending -ia, common in Latin names of countries (paralleling Britannia, Gallia, and others).

.

And will Columbia University? Surely, all those liberals will demand its name be changed to George Floyd University.

Christopher Columbus was in many ways a great man, one who will be remembered long after these losers are gone from the scene.

some people claim he commited genocides?
when and where and who? as to "great"
what was great about him? he is important
historically------like Lewis and Clarke

it was a nice statue. I wonder if Columbus really
looked like that.

Nobody has found an authentic contemporary portrait of Christopher Columbus. Over the years there have been many portraits that reconstruct his appearance from written descriptions. They depict him variously with long or short hair, heavy or thin, bearded or clean shaven, stern or at ease.

The Admiral was "of good stature and appearance, taller than the average and strongly limbed: the eyes lively and other parts of the face of good proportion, the hair very red, and the face somewhat ruddy and freckled ...." long visaged with cheeks somewhat high, but neither fat nor thin. He had an aquiline nose and his eyes were light in color; his complexion too was light, but kindling to a vivid red. In youth his hair was blond, but when he came to his thirtieth year it all turned white.- Description by his son, Ferdinand. Columbus's second son Ferdinand should certainly be regarded as a reliable source as he traveled constantly with his father between the ages of 12 and 18.

Another historian of the day, Bartolome de las Casas, the "Historian of the Indies," knew Columbus quite well after his return from the New World. His description agrees with the other accounts except for the inclusion of a beard. He writes that "His form was tall, above the medium: his face long and his countenance imposing: his nose aquiline: his eyes clear blue: his complexion light, tending toward a decided red, his beard and hair were red when he was young, but which cares then had early turned white."

I guess our mission should be to try to find a contemporaneous portrait of Columbus--they must have been done; he was famous, a fixture at Court, governor of the colony. It'd be worth a fortune!

The statue of Columbus, the man who discovered America and put an end to the flat earth myth has been removed for being too offensive.

Leftism is the flat earth equivalent of political ideology. I can't say they aren't dedicated with their hatred of America - it should have never even been found. Wipe it right off the map.

The belief in a flat earth had long gone by the time Columbus sailed.
There are probably more believers today than there were in Columbus' day.

He missed and he was known for genocide.

You don't know history do you? He was looking for another route to India and China for the spice trade and believed the Earth was round when most thought it was flat. He found the New World by accident, but started the European exploration and the migration to the Americas from Europe. He was a great visionary, explorer and paved the way for modern times. He is a true hero and deserved of respect and admiration. It is only to the current d bag woke, reactionaries that need to virtue signal to feel important, like you.

I've always agreed with a historian who said that Columbus was an, "agent of the inevitable".
In other words, if he hadn't made the voyage to discover what was on the other side of the Atlantic ocean, someone else eventually would have made the voyage and discovery of the New World. ...

See what all this leads to?

Flat earth is not important today.

The ideological equivalent of flat earth is.

Lol. He didn't discover America. So silly.

Even among Europeans, the vikings got there earlier.

Also, genetics of some Eastern Native North Amerians suggests that perhaps wayward explores or mutineers arrived on continent earlier as well.

He was the only one who had the sheer balls to undertake that mission and thanks to him, Europe and the rest of the world found out that two massive continents existed they never dreamed of before. The Vikings were here first, but they either had no idea what they'd found, or they decided not to tell anyone (well, no one advertises their best fishing spot, do they?) Columbus deserves to be honored for his sheer guts and determination. What he lacked in humanity is a piece to add to the story; you don't wipe him out.
I agree with with your post. We can celebrate Columbus’ achievement. The fact is none of the early explorers were saints. That is just history. Heck, even those that became Saints did nor necessarily act like saints.

Unlike confederate statues that I see as honoring those that rebelled against the nation, statues to explorers honor those that set in motion the modern age. The Americas are nAmes after an Italian explorer. There is nothing that one can do to change that history. It is who we are.

Clearly, Columbus did discover America. Others may have gotten there first, but it was Columbus' voyages that led to the colonization of the Americas and changed the history of the world.

The Vikings were the first to discover America.
Why is this POS being honored based on lies?
Many, Many Trumpsters and DOPers only know the world as flat still today.
So the dude failed here as well. But it was a good try.

Read about it.

The vikings are certainly rumored to have discovered America. It's the stuff of legends. Columbus created a written record with navigation charts on how to do it again.

Legend is a legend.

This amount of success on its own is already a big problem for the leftists who have achieved nothing in their lives. Once you add that he discovered America - the place they hate the most. The documentation of the unmitigated success of a free nation founded by white Europeans - that makes their heads blow up.

It truly is unequal that America is so much better than anything else. Thankfully equality is nonsense so we can keep it. We will just have to be content with having "better" and "superior".
