They must be provided with adequate medical care and attention based on their condition.

Prohibition of "No Quarter": Orders to give "no quarter" (meaning to kill everyone and take no prisoners) are explicitly forbidden under the 1907 Hague Convention IV and are considered a grave breach of the laws of war.

Individual Accountability: Commanders who issue orders to kill survivors, and individuals who carry out such "patently illegal orders," can be prosecuted for war crimes, murder, or both. Military personnel have a duty to disobey orders that are manifestly unlawful.

These rules apply regardless of whether the individuals were enemy combatants or civilians, provided they are no longer actively participating in hostilities
