State Dept missing Clinton emails but says unrelated to Benghazi attacks - CNNPolitics.com

Washington (CNN)The State Department has not been able to find emails from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private server in its archives, State Department officials said Thursday.

The officials said the State Department is missing all or part of 15 emails from longtime confidant Sidney Blumenthal released this week by a House panel investigating the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya. Blumenthal provided the Select Committee on Benghazi with the emails.

"She has turned over 55,000 pages of materials to the State Department, including all emails in her possession from Mr. Blumenthal," said Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill on Thursday.

Officials said the exchanges with Blumenthal were not among the 55,000 pages of emails Clinton handed over to the State Department, even though Clinton insisted she gave her former agency all of her work-related correspondence from private account during her time at State.

Something tells me Sidney may not be getting a bonus this year after turning those emails over to the committee!!!!!

Fifteen of Hillary Clinton's work-related emails were missing when she handed her server over to the State Department, it has emerged.

They were between Clinton and her controversial longtime confidant Sidney Blumenthal, who surrendered the documents after being subpoenaed this month.

The news will revive questions about her use of a personal email account and server as secretary of state, and whether there are more exchanges that have not been disclosed.

Clinton, a 2016 hopeful, was ordered to hand over all work correspondence from her tenure as secretary of state for a House panel investigation into the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya.

After surrendering 55,000 pages, the former First Lady insisted everything was accounted for. She acknowledged in April that she scrubbed more than 32,000 emails from the server, which she controlled, but insisted they were all personal in nature.

However, when Blumenthal handed over his own emails two weeks ago, the house found nine were new to the investigation, as well as portions of six, according to the New York Times.

Blumenthal, a former advisor to former president Bill Clinton, was one of Hillary's top choices to be a senior State Department adviser when she took the top role. The Obama administration vetoed her request.

During the 2008 primaries, Blumenthal angered the Obama team by spreading criticisms of the soon-to-be president on behalf of the Hillary campaign.

He subsequently secured a $10,000-a-month contract with the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation.
