King Charles acknowledges ‘painful’ past as calls for slavery reparations grow at Commonwealth summit
Some leaders had hoped Charles might use his speech at Chogm in Samoa as an opportunity to apologise for Britain’s colonial past
www.theguardian.com
All of the countries that britain shafted during its evil empire period agree that this is in order but the king and his prime minister disagree
Well of course Charlie disagrees he sits on a throne of stolen gold.
But Starmers attitude defies explanation. He has just dismissed it out of hand.
He is no better than a fucking tory.
I know that he doesnt have any money. The tories spent it all. But anyone with a bit of sense would not have been caught looking so tory.
There are many ways to approach this subject. Acknowledging the injustice would be the start of it.
When Britains "great" institutions grew rich on slavery and continue to prosper there is room for justice. The rich colleges for a start should be able to contribute. So could the private schools and the big insurance companies, The rich aristocrats, some of them still own plantations, should pay their share.
I visited Penrhyn Casrle on Ynys Mon a while back. Its publicly owned by the National Trust now. But it was built be a Liverpudlian slaver who made all his money from slavery. He was an evil man who treated his workers as slaves and was responsible for the longest strike in history. The Penrhyn loclout. Something like that should be turned over to the Jamaican govt for the benefit of the Jamaican people.
Theu could knock it down and build some homes to rent. Something useful.
We all benefit indirectly from this evil. Its time to make amends.
Its a chance to reshape our corrupt institutions and make the country fit for the future.
