Sports are the circuses of declining America

I'm not totally opposed to sports, honestly.

But, it's just repetitive BS, the same thing over and over. It just isn't possible to be interested in them anymore.

All of you young guys, just give it ten more years and you'll lose interest. That is, if you actually get responsibility in real life. I suppose any country needs permanent adolescents to discuss trivial stuff, to get worked up about games. Easier to control the population.

Car racing is great when you are 16. After you've seen a few of them though you see it's exactly the same thing over and over. Cars going around in circles for two hours. It is boring as hell. At least with something like Le Mans or racing through the desert the scenery is always changing. NASCAR is a cat laser pointer for humans.

I can still watch football but basketball and baseball have gotten stale as well.

Millions of people disagree with you.

And they are free to do so. Millions of people also play tic-tac-toe past the age of 9.

Is Pretentious Douchebag a sport?

I figured that was coming.

If you enjoy racing that's all that matters. Have fun.

I love sports. I love watching sports. I love attending sporting events. I love talking about sports. I love that it reveals character and I love that it brings people together. I don't view it as a negative that American's love sports.

The Steroids Drugstore

The biggest drawback to professional/televised sports (IMO) is the advertised controversy regarding the use of dangerous/illegal performance-enhancing steroids.

High-profile athletes such as Barry Bonds (MLB) have been accused of using steroids, and these accusations have been widely-circulated in the press and give people the notion that professional sports can be likened to 'cut-throat socioeconomics' and 'brutish psychology.'

No one wants to hear, "I read somewhere that Barry Bonds attacked someone with a hacksaw!" simply because we expect highly-paid professional athletes to behave like they appreciate their celebrity...in other words, we simply don't care to discover the 'corruption' in sports.

JEAN-CLAUDE: I'm a simply kickboxer, not a 'superhero.'
PROFESSOR X: You're a celebrity, and I can *transform* you into the mighty Colossus!
JEAN-CLAUDE: How can I help society being Colossus?
PROFESSOR X: You can send athletes the message that steroids-use is ugly.
JEAN-CLAUDE: I doubt athletes have the time or interest to care about politics.
PROFESSOR X: As Colossus, they'll listen to what you have to say about self-image.
JEAN-CLAUDE: Athletes take steroids to make money, not become popular.
PROFESSOR X: Audiences hate to hear stories about the 'complications' in athletes' lives.
JEAN-CLAUDE: Maybe Colossus can tell them about the appeal of religion!
PROFESSOR X: People just want to see athletes achieve; they don't care about their welfare.

The Era of Good Feelings

I agree that the era of free-agency and marketing (e.g., LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Deion Sanders) really hurt professional sports, but who can forget the 1992 NBA Finals drama between the titan Chicago Bulls and the darling Portland Trailblazers?

The Bulls were led by Michael Jordan, while the 'Blazers boasted the great Clyde Drexler. While the Bulls pulled away 4-2, the 'Blazers' victories in Games 2 and 4 cemented in the minds of fans that the NBA Championships make for great TV.

This iconic NBA Finals inspired a very popular video game too (which many of us remember from our youth)...

Maybe if we focus on the positives, we can skulk away from the negatives.

====

NEGATIVE: Tom Brady and his Patriots are indomitable and rather...boring.
POSITIVE: Eli Manning and his upstart Giants upset Brady's Patriots in 2 Super Bowls!
NEGATIVE: Baseball great Barry Bonds is accused of steroids.
POSITIVE: Steroids controversies bring to the spotlight the concern that media pressure is destroying athletes.
NEGATIVE: The Bulls downed the darling Blazers, even though many wanted to see the Blazers triumph.
POSITIVE: The Bulls-Blazers series inspired a popular video-game for the SNES and Sega Genesis.
NEGATIVE: There was great confusion surrounding the shuffling of sports conferences in NCAA football.
POSITIVE: The intrigue surrounding Virginia Tech (ACC) and Notre Dame (Independent) created nice chatter.
NEGATIVE: Super Bowl ads are consumerism-central.
POSITIVE: The Bud-Bowl Super Bowl series inspired the cool Puppy Bowl!

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS?
THIS-* OF COURSE.

this oakland fan hit the nail right on the head. I am STILL not going to back down that the Raiders wont be in Vegas because what is NOT being reported from the mainstream media is that the city of Oakland same as the city of san diego and st louis, are all filing lawsuits against the NFL because they have violated rules that were set forth in 1996 for teams to be able to relocate and if it goes to a jury trial, the NFL will get embarrassed and have to let the raiders stay in oakland and tell dean spanos he will have to give the name chargers back to san diego cause they have BOTH violated relocation bylaws and rules. st louis is the only one just suing them for money, not for the team name because they know the CITY violated the agreement in the lease where the rams organization did everything asked of them.lol.
OAKLAND has the most solid hard rock case against the NFL of the three. if and when it goes to a jury trial, the NFL is sunk.:happy-1:

you can hear some of the oakland residents talk about it in this video here in this link.

It appears that Goodell's NFL cares less about the education of our children and cares more about whether a child can play football, and put money into the League's pockets. From my perspective, why is it okay to take public funding away from education to construct a football stadium; instead of using private funding to construct a football stadium?
An example of private versus public funding for the construction of a football stadium is the state of Nevada. The government of the state of Nevada denied Clark County, Nevada 14 million dollars in funding for education. This denial of funding has led to the closure of facilities, increases in class size and a demoralized staff and students. Yet, the very same government can approve 750 million dollars for the construction a football stadium in Clark County. This is a slap in the face to our children and their educators.
As a taxpayer you must ask yourself these questions:
Who will profit from these deals?
Why are taxpayer's dollars being expended, when private funding can be used?
Will the taxpayer ever be allow to vote on the expenditure of public funds?
And is a child's future more important than lining the pockets of Goodell and his merry band of Billionaires?

Respectfully yours,
