Some of the anger stemming from American International Group's situation is distracting people from the task of unwinding the troubled insurance giant for the benefit of taxpapers, Rep. Spencer Bachus, the ranking Republican on the House Financial Services Committee, said Wednesday. "I am concerned that some of the anger - justified though it is - is distracting us from the true issue at hand: making sure AIG is unwound in a way that will return as much of the taxpayers' money as possible," he said in a statement. "The people who set policies that brought AIG to the brink of total collapse are now gone," Bachus added. "We need to give the new management team the time it needs to do the job it has been assigned."
