Another large Solar Manufacturor fails. With over 110 creditors lined up.

Solar Bankruptcy: Pine Gate Renewables (boom to bust continues)

Excerpt:

“What about the triple-digit number of creditors who banked on a loser? What about taxpayers who funded around 30 percent of the solar investment? … Ben Catt is just another rent-seeker, a political crony, like Sunnova’s John Berger, benefitting at the expense of just about everyone else.”

MasterResource has chronicled the rise and fall of major U.S. solar firms this year. The rooftop solar business is in shambles, with leaders such as Sunnova becoming worthless and defaulting on their long-term projects. And more recently, utility-scale solar developers are in trouble despite the last-minute deal to continue major tax subsidies until next year.

Gee, just like Solyndra 14 years ago.

I shook my head as they were only in business for four years and failing. Which is why the Obama Administration pumped over a half a billion dollars into the company. And they still failed just two years later.

If an industry can not exist in the free market without significant subsidies and tax rebates, then it is not a viable industry. And we have been seeing this in many areas, from electric vehicles to the various solar and wind solutions. They only happen because of large tax incentives and grants. And as we are seeing now that most of those grants and tax incentives are no longer being offered, they are failing because nobody wants to pay the huge costs.

Probably the only good thing about this bankruptcy is that the government did not try and bail them out, so the only ones out of money is the investors and not the taxpayers.

Small wonder since blue states like CA fucked-over solar users.

At first any excess energy the homeowners generated was sold back to "the grid" at the same retail rate they paid.

The states said "oh **** that, we are losing too much tax revenue", so they made it where they would only get the wholesale rate thus making solar, in most cases, a losing proposition for the homeowners to where the systems they installed would never pay for themselves even with the fed tax break when it was still available.

So, unless you are a total "green freak" it's just not viable when you look at the up-front costs (with no fed tax break now) and future maintenance which is where solar installers really make their money.

Was over $50K in 2018 in CA to put on roof panels. Now? Probably $100K?

Bunch of uninsured illegals pounding nails in your roof willy-nilly uncontrolled. What could go wrong? They fake a falloff and sue?

Panels go bad before you get any savings you dumb Black-tounged OXYEN.

Solar energy doesnt work reality is killing it as democrats try and force it on us.

It works but it is very expensive and not a "national answer" to our energy needs. It is good for locations way far away from civilization and hence easy access to electricity.

Yeah ... so? ...

You must not know much about business if you think this causes insolvency ... I'm sorry, the Sun doesn't need judicial protection from creditors ...

Are you seriously saying I shouldn't hang my laundry during sunny weather? ... that's sad ...

Solar doesnt work

Solar doesnt work

Works for me ... I'm a gardener ... and it works in San Diego ... 40¢ per kilowatt-hour runs up the average family's bill to $425 per month ... do you even know what you pay? ...

I wouldn't bother in Fairbanks, Alaska ... or London, England ... I get that ... use what's available, and if that's coal, have at it ... the OP has hydro, so he should use that (cheapest-in-the-nation) ... Texas has gas, Chicago has hot air ...

AI needs solar ... when will it be too late to say no? ...

Add the cost of subsidies and surplus energy at night. Solar cant meet the the demand of the future economy. The outcome will be a catastrophe. That wont happen now because we are supporting nuclear and fossil fuels.

SunsetMommy is a DISHONEST Cherry Picker misleading this MAGAt board on every single topic.

AI Overview
Yes, solar energy is Booming globally and in the U.S., experiencing Record installations, becoming the Fastest-growing electricity source, Dominating new power capacity additions, driven by Lower costs, Strong demand (especially from data centers/AI), and supportive policies, with Massive Growth in utility-scale projects and domestic manufacturing, even as challenges like grid connection persist.

Key indicators of solar's boom:
 • Record-Breaking Capacity: The world added significant solar capacity in 2024 and the first half of 2025, with installations surging past previous years.
 • Fastest-Growing Source: Solar is the quickest-growing electricity source, accounting for a huge percentage (e.g., 66% in the U.S. in 2024) of new generating capacity.
 • Outpacing Other Sources: Solar and battery storage are adding far more capacity than natural gas or nuclear plants.
 • Demand Drivers: Big Tech's need for clean energy for data centers and increasing electricity demand are fueling massive new projects.
 • Domestic Manufacturing: U.S. solar module manufacturing capacity grew dramatically in 2024.
 • Policy & Economics: Strong federal incentives (like the ITC) and falling costs make solar economically attractive, despite some policy shifts.

Challenges:
 • Grid & Transmission: Connecting all this new solar to the grid and building necessary transmission lines remains a major bottleneck.
 • Policy Uncertainty: Some policy changes and potential tariffs create near-term market uncertainty, though long-term demand is strong.

All renewable energy in America is now in decline as all subsidies have been stopped. The above post is pure fiction. Another solar company has gone broke adding to long list of failures. Wind turbines have been canceled nationwide as too expensive, life span of 10 years too short to recover costs, kills birds and fish and pollutes the air. Renewable energy cant meet the demand of AI and increased use of server banks. When you add back up and reserve it becomes the most expensive way to generate energy. The shortage it will cause will be catastrophic.
The future is nuclear LNG and fossil fuels. Thats where America is going.
Human caused climate change never existed. CO2 doesnt make the earth warmer.

Renewable energy in Europe is driving manufacturing to America
Yes, European manufacturing is increasingly coming to America, driven by factors like high European energy costs, supply chain resilience needs, and new US-EU trade deals that encourage investment, leading major firms like ArcelorMittal, Volkswagen, and Northvolt to expand US facilities or build new ones, focusing on areas from autos and chemicals to batteries and advanced tech to serve the large North American market. Google
Examples of European Companies Expanding in the U.S.:
 • Automotive: Volkswagen (Audi) is expanding North American production, while BMW considers adding shifts at its Spartanburg plant.
 • Chemicals: OCI (Netherlands) is investing heavily in its Texas ammonia plant.
 • Batteries: Swedish company Northvolt is evaluating North America for expansion before Germany.
 • Other Sectors: ArcelorMittal (steel) found U.S. operations exceeded expectations, leading to production shifts.
Glad you disagree now challenge the facts Abu boo boo

Its all tax subsidies and mandates a false economy
In 2022, under the Inflation Reduction Act, First Solar became the biggest beneficiary of $1 trillion in environmental spending. First Solar executives and lobbyists met at least four times in late 2022 and 2023 with administration officials who oversaw the measure’s environmental provisions. Democratic donors had invested heavily in the company prior to the act being signed into law.[23]

Its all propped up by our taxes
