Interesting. Like most, I started with what I had been taught as a child. It was only after an in depth study of the bible, with the intention of becoming a better Christian, and with a focus on god's actions, did I realize the god in the bible was not the loving, caring god I had believed to exist. Instead, his actions showed him to be a mean, cruel, petty god. Relying on my childhood teachings, and still believing what I had been taught about Jesus, I maintained the belief that Jesus unlike god, was the loving, caring person I had been taught about. You've pointed out scripture that might show I have been as mistaken about Jesus as I had been about god. You have given me cause to question my beliefs again.

I professed to be a Christian most of my life. I was even a deacon for a short time. I read the scriptures you offered. Of course I had read them before, but, like most Christians do, I just skimmed past them because they didn't seem to advance the story I was looking for.
