Thune also knows that Trump will probably steal future elections, so he is not really concerned about the Democrats regaining control of the Senate in the future, either.

Secretly, Thune knows the Big Ugly Bill is a disaster for the country and that ending the Obamacare subsidies will also be a disaster. He is hoping that Trump and Mike Johnson finally give in and negotiate a compromise with the Democrats. This is the real reason that Thune won't end the filibuster.

The Republicans in the house agreed to a simple CR, to fund the government for 7 weeks to continue the talks for appropriations…They did their work on this, now the Senate dems need to stop the obstruction.

They have the majorities they need. They just need to get Thune to end the Senate filibuster and pass it. Thune doesn't want to...he doesn't want the Republican Party to permanently own this disaster. Thune is hoping that Trump and Johnson finally wise up and negotiate with the Democrats.
