So What Happens With Fort Myers Now? They Lost Much Of Their Season Business. Maybe, Waiters Will Move To Other Cities Still In Tact?

What happened to Fort Myers/Naples is the worst economic nightmare scenario for that region. Depending on how fast they can rebuild, they may not have the usual busy seasons that bring in millions in their local economies. Fort Myers beach is gone for now. Hopefully they can rebuild in time for the 2023/24 season. Naples will have a season, inland restaurants/hotels should do OK, just not sure what will happen along the world famous streets with those mega mansions and resorts. Odds are that many waiters that either live in Fort Myers/Naples or come down for the 8 or 9 month season will go elsewhere. I live in Sarasota. We were spared! This place is like cape cod in July right thru June or July. Same with Tampa. A direct hit to Tampa would of been their worse case scenario.

it's not a new scenario, they'll do what they always do.

Could be worse. Imagine how much it would suck to live in California. Even a hurricane ravaged neighborhood is better than that hell hole.

I wish all these Yankees would just move back to where they came from.

They move in and build everywhere and they bitch when a hurricane comes in and destroys what they built.

i dont think the home depots/lowes in the naples area will have enough building products to meet the demand. 2x4's will probably be one of the first things to go. among tarps/plywood/maybe wall board. i went to my home depot a few days ago,,,,all 2x4's were gone,,i neede 2 of them

I live outside Tampa and didn't get the full force of Ivan but my fence went down.

I went to the local Lowes this morning to get a few things to repair the fence until it can be replaced.

They were out of almost everything.

The fence company told me it would probably be December before they could get to me.

I think no longer having your home is worse than your "I hate California" porn fetish....

I guarantee you not a single person who lost their home is consoled by the fact that you think they are better off because California is a hell-hole.....

Ponder the following: Would any insurance company, risking its own money, provide flood insurance to anyone rebuilding in that area going forward? The answer is clearly, No. But we, the taxpayers, backstop the flood insurance to the tune of billions of dollars a year, so that rich "white" people can build their retirement and vacation homes by the sea, where no logical human would locate if they had to assume the actual risk involved.

And this local tragedy won't change that. Insurance companies need not learn from their mistakes when it comes to flood insurance. They will insure the re-built properties just like the lost ones, at pretty much the same rates as before, because we, the taxpayers, will backstop their systemic stupidity.

Welfare for white people: ain't it great?

Floridians will be just fine, Californians wont.

I've heard that, statewide, contractors are emptying Lowe's and Home Depot stores and heading down there with the materials. I'd like to believe there are some honest contractors who are doinig this simply in an effort to keep earning a living and, at the same time, help them rebuild, but I harbor no illusion that there aren't some unscrupulous contractors gouging people, too...
