So I will sit back with interest and watch to see what plays out before I draw any conclusions. I think the big picture in all of this is that Trump is really after stopping China taking any further hold of the Caribbean right next to our borders.

Same with Greenland and Panama--- Trump is trying to stop Chinese influence from gaining any further dominance in our own back yard. Like a good leader, Trump is not just looking 6 months down the road but 25 years down the road.

1) Why were we told that military actions near the Venezuelan coast was a "war on drugs" when that really wasn't the reason?

Because Trump is a liar. But what is worse - oil isn't the reason, too.

2) Since when does a U.S. President use the taxpayer funded military to start a war on behalf of a private corporation?

Actually, as far as know, those private corporations are not interested much. Oil nowadays is cheap, drilling most of Venezuela's oil is expensive, current situation is good enough for everyone and American oil companies value cooperation with other companies (and, so, business reputation) much more than taking back some old oil fields.

Actual motivation of Trump's masters is still concealed.
