After mass firings, the IRS is poised to close audits of wealthy taxpayers

Some audits of rich individuals and corporations are at immediate risk of being closed prematurely without action due to a lack of personnel to complete them, according to several current employees at the tax agency. The handful of imperiled audits that agents described in general terms to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists could amount to millions of lost dollars in public revenue from wealthy people and corporations, although agents said this likely represents only a sliver of the agency’s lost revenue stemming from the firings.

“All of a sudden, these cases are going to be closed and we’re going to look like idiots,” said a senior revenue agent, who works within the IRS’s Large Business & International Division, which audits the country’s wealthiest taxpayers. “There is no one left to work them. The remaining agents have full caseloads.”

Seems pretty obvious that this was the point, don't you think?

Protect the billionaires at all costsFuck the little guy, he doesn't matter.

But the wealthy democrats can always call them and request their audits still be performed...you know, to do the right thing and all. Right?

A blind man could see this coming from a mile away.

We knew that the unelected administrative state was going to fight back through worker slowdowns

Entitled GS-whatever’s who are used to giving 1/10th the effort of workers in the private sector are not going to become busy bees for the first time in their career

Now they will do even less

Trump is trying to save the nation from going bankrupt due to overspending

Shame on him, Huh?
Cutting people that investigate tax fraud isn’t helping that.

Sure, that's why the budget he will sign will add trillions to the debt. But for some odd reason that doesn't register with you.

See post #14

If it were me I would freeze every government spending program at current levels and reduce it 1% every year

Including the entitlements while continuing to audit looking for waste, fraud and abuse

true

We are adding a trillion a year every year

Trump wants to change that

No he doesn't or he wouldn't have insisted on raising the debt limit. Do you not feel even a little foolish for being so gullible and willing to lie for him?

Do you want trump to slash spending by 1 trillion in next years budget?

Or reduce spending gradually over time?
