So I finally watched a Taylor Swift performance

I agree
While her concerts seem watchable, she is an average talent

Not great vocal skills, average guitar playing, her songs are nothing special

I have seen female vocalists at local bars who have more talent
Nancy Wilson has a voice that is just gorgeous and her sister Ann can really play the guitar. Pat Benatar another voice that is iconic, Beth Hart absolutely is a great singer and great voice.

A couple things I do like about Swift is she is charitable, really charitable and doesn't raise a fuss about it, like some.
Another is, when the record companies tried to con her, claiming ownership of her songs, she re-released every song she wrote and nailed them.

The problem is you all are just a bunch of old farts who just don’t get Taylor Swift.

Well..neither do I to be honest.

But needless to say, I remember my father going on about Rock and Roll bands as great no talents.

Now, Frank Sinatra..that’s where it’s at he would tell me.

He may have been right afterall.
I never though Frank Sinatra was such a talent. He seemed to "talk" the words of his songs more than "sing".

While I think Taylor Swift is more talented than Britney Spears or Miley Cyrus, there is nothing about her performance that is memorable.

I can’t see any of her work being cherished in 20 years
First she's been in the biz (first grammy) 14 years ago.

How many artists from the 1980's, 1990's etc were gone a decade later.

After all the hype and fuss I figured maybe I should take a look. Unfortunately it was just about what I figured it would be.

Nothing special at all. I kept waiting for that burst of talent...It didn't show in vocal quality...the dance moves were mediocre and the choreography unimaginative and frankly boring. Not sure what she's trying to achieve.

if I had to guess I would say a poor mixed imitation of several more proficient artists from pop and modern venues only not as good as any of them.

What I get out of it is a great white hope thing....since people of color have more or less dominated the live entertainment aspect of our culture in the past 20 years or so.

Myself....I look for the talent not the skin color.

I know people that feel this way about the Beatles.

Such things are always in the eye of the beholder.

I checked her out. A young, pretty girl wiggling and giggling. She sings banal tunes while some shadow band plays rock licks in the shadows. Her popularity comes down to this:
  1. Young girls like her because Swift is an image for them of an "empowered female." Independant and free. They project themselves through her and hope someday they too will be rich, beautiful and popular.
  2. The boys in the crowd are there for only one thing and we know what that is.

Spot on!

Every generation hates the previous generations music. They think their music was the best ever. Which actually sucked if you grew up in the disco era.
Panning music has been the historical norm. One article published the review of Beethoven's 5th symphony, where the reviewers panned it as a cacophony of noise.

But their music still has legs and gets air time
Kids today recognize and like Rock Music from the 60s

I doubt Taylor will be appreciated by the children of Swifties

Well there's music and then there's music....

Nessun Dorma...from
Turandot...100 years old and still growing in popularity.
But that is talent on a completely different level than pop music.

If you look at the ticket prices for the EROS tour. It tells you it's not tweens supporting her concerts.
The average "swiftie" is 30's to 40's.

Yeah....that's true actually.
Mostly white people I'm guessing.

Before you pan the current or previous generation.
How many of you have VHS tapes of MTV?
Or know what a VJ is?
