So I finally watched a Taylor Swift performance

How did it happen that the originator of this thread attended a concert? Did it pay the price? Pay a premium for the ticket?

I have not knowingly ever heard a TS song, but the LAFitness that I patronize plays a never-ending sequence of bad music, obviously intended for an audience about a fourth of my age. Maybe I have heard her. The lack of singing talent in that music is truly remarkable. There always seems to be a marginally-talented young woman making gazillions of dollars in the music industry while everyone else looks on with envy. It's a pity because there are so many talented artists that never get the break they could exploit.
It was a you tube video. Quite unremarkable. Having said that I'm sure that her bank account makes mine look like a microcosm.

You want to get freaked out? The gal in Only Murders in the Building is now a billionaire. Seriously.

Some of the same people who hate Swift gush over Boy Bands like the Beatles as if they had super talent, even though they both marketed themselves to the exact same demographic, middle class white female Burb brats with big allowances.

She knows her audience perfectly. She is excellent at marketing, the best ever in the business with few peers. She deserves some respect for that, in not only pop but country before that, two genres, which makes her pretty unique and better than the Beatles at what they do.

I'm more of a Monkey's fan.

Hmmm....so her talent is actually marketing..
Ahh...that certainly is a way to look at it.

Good post

Good post

Rock and pop and country are all about marketing, image, and little else. Talent is incidental and not necessary.

The Beatles were super talented

Their music will be played long after Taylor Swift is forgotten

I like a couple of their songs, too. Beatles have maybe 4 I like, and only one of them is a genuinely good song, Eleanor Rigby. The rest are just pablum garbage written to cash in on popularity same as with most pop and rock. Stevie Nicks is far more talented as a songwriter than they ever were.

Whats your favorite taylor swift song?

The problem is you all are just a bunch of old farts who just don’t get Taylor Swift.

Well..neither do I to be honest.

But needless to say, I remember my father going on about Rock and Roll bands as great no talents.

Now, Frank Sinatra..that’s where it’s at he would tell me.

He may have been right afterall.

That's just it, musical talent isn't rare, it's all over the place. You have to spend a lot to make a lot, and not just musicianship re pop and rock and country. Labels don't do a lot of marketing and A&R any more.

Not many want to listen to Jackie Evancho, even her pop music covers.

My understanding from Swifties is Taylor does a lot of quick wardrobe changes, where there's not a lot of down time with the band playing. And her shows are long.
I really don't get the hype either.

Doubtful. Boomers are dying and no one else even knows who they are.
You are so wrong

The Beatles music is transgenerational

Not every song of course

Some of it is forgetable

But much of it will never go away

Target audience....12 to 17 year old white girls... It never dawned on me until a poster mentioned that her talent isn't so much in music or dance but in marketing. Bingo
