White Christian Conservatives made up the majority of the Democrat Party prior to the Civil Rights Era. Lest you forget the Freeman were hardly welcome in the North either. Nor should you forget it was the Northern Democrats and Northern Republicans who passed the civil rights act of 64. Republicans in the Rebel states, like the Democrats. nearly all voted against it. Thus began the schism in the Democrat party that eventually lead the Republicans gaining power in the South and supplanting the Democrats control of the Rebel states.

That doesn't matter nor change the fact the democrats were the party of slavery and lbj was a champion of racism and dems had pushed segregation after the civil war.

There is a big difference in were the party of slavery and are the party of slavery, which was your claim. That all changed over a half a century ago.
