Since it Keeps Coming Up...

How long have you been teaching?
Ask a valid question; or, maybe, stick to the topic, unk.

And if you want to engage in the fallacy of an appeal to authority (where because you’re a teacher you are the sole authority on any such discussion), mane don’t be so glaringly obvious about it.

Just to help you and the Ensign out a bit, most teachers are liberals. Some are conservative. Some are so-called moderates.

So, again, it’s not as few as you and the Ensign think.
Those who teach the trades courses are likely conservatives.

That seems probable.

I don’t doubt that there are some conservative teachers.

But I absolutely doubt any claim that most teachers are “not” liberals.

"so-called moderates"

Ignorance and denial on full display

I taught at a large high school in Florida. We had 3250 students and a faculty of over 160 teachers and staff. I knew of one liberal teacher, and he was scared to death because we would have had his ass if he slipped up even once. I knew he was a liberal only because of private conversations in our teacher work room over lunch. He kept it out of the classroom because he knew he was dead if he f-ed up! I was promoted to AP. He recently retired after 30 years in the classroom.

I had one liberal principal, and she got fired after she forced me out as her AP. She was never there anyway, so she couldn't mess up too much.

... if you want to engage in the fallacy of an appeal to authority...
And your "authority" comes from ... Google? A talk radio program? That kid you saw on the street last week who didn't look quite right to you? Maybe a sitcom?

So happy for you.

But your experience is anecdotal.

And it simply doesn’t stack up against what happens — for example — in the NY City public school “system” and many other public school systems around the country.

I have no problem with a teacher being a liberal, by the way. I do have a problem with a school system imposing its ideology over teachers and students, alike.

FYI:

  • NO, not all teachers are liberals.
  • NO, there is no vetting of prospective teachers for liberal political views.
  • NO, conservative teachers do not "keep their mouths shut" for fear of repercussions.
  • NO, unions do NOT order, influence, or demand any particular teaching topics or approaches to individual teachers.
  • NO, local school districts do NOT take their marching orders from the federal government.

More to come...
These things may be true in your school. Clearly not all.

My “authority” (which isn’t something I’ve claimed here) comes from the links I’ve offered as well as my observations over a couple of decades.

You also just engaged in the fallacy of attacking the messenger rather than arguing about the validity or invalidity of the studies or the data underlying those studies.

Apparently, I’ve stepped on your toes about “education” in your thread. Well, seriously, that’s just too bad.

I want you to understand something:
Just because you’re an educator (maybe even a good one) doesn’t mean that your views on the education ”system” can’t be challenged. And, contrary to the suppressed premise of your first fallacy, I don’t have to be a “teacher” to be able to challenge the broad stroke claims you make.

You obviously did not read your linked data.

Wrong again, Ensign.

Why are you so fond of being wrong.
What were the top three reasons for teachers were unhappy? Did you read them? It was all due to Biden's impact on education and because of COVID. None of that is present now. What was the date on your survey?

A few principals ago, we had a younger guy somewhat fresh out of grad school who actually got one of those "Social Justice" module things. Ridiculous. At one point there was a module that asked all the teachers to record themselves explaining basically how we each sucked because we were white. Mind you, this was in a school where maybe half the teaching staff actually was white. Well, that was the last straw. Aside from one or two real lefty loons, everyone flat out refused to do it. The non-white teachers were the first to call bullshit. The principal got the message and let the whole thing drop at that point. In under two years he had moved on to another district.

...

Because you've worked in these systems and saw with your own two eyes?
