Hello? Raping altar boys, encouraging blowing up Americans. Not all of what they do is good for the community.but churches usually do a lot for the community.
examples?
I'm sure you're right, but I would hope it's usually the case.

To be fair I think she means the Catholic Church in the US.the vatican is one of the richest churches and all..land holdings etc...why arent they paying taxes...

ummmmm, The Vatican is in Italy bones?
ya getting a tad too excited over this...no? hahahahaha!
care
Booze just takes from society, so let's tax it. It isn't like it provides any real benefit.
Point rejected.
allie ...pay attention...the government of nc...is talking about more sin taxes...the tobacco industry is dead here...no one grows it...now...most have lost their allotments...moved overseas long ago...cheaper to grow..
its all the liberals...its all the liberals....do you have that written on your hand....so you can remember it?
This is great. Villify the churches, and punish people for belonging to them.
The US is crumbling before our eyes. Freedom of religion and the protection of those who want to practice that religion, and a complete governmental hands-off policy is what keeps Americans free, you fucking idiots.
And it's LIBERALS who go for the fucking sin taxes. You don't see the baptist tobacco farmers of the carolinas or the methodist distillery workers voting to tax fucking cigarettes and liquor. It's the LIBERALS who are doing their best to shut down all industry in this country, and place it in the hands of the government...while at the same time getting rid of anyone who dissents. Which are, incidentally, Christians...the same people who have always complained at the removal of freedom and individuality, or state mandated religion (or state-mandated removal of religion).
BTW, they're removing guns from households in Houston now.
That's a matter of opinion.
we are not just talking booze....
and i dont agree with you on chruches doing a lot of charity work....
....i see a few doing that...not the majority..
unless you are counting money going overseas etc...
mega churches are esp. offensive..
and what about faith healers like benny hinn?
do you disagree that churches are full of sinners?
perhaps a tax on adultery...the list goes on and on...fat women in spandex is a sin
Churches are not taxed because they are a nonprofit or not for profit, such as Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, The United Way, Good Will....
If there are no profits, there is no tax to be rendered....no?
Or am i misunderstanding such?
in addition to this...the FIRST AMENDMENT!!!
Congress shall make no law regarding an established church.....i'd bet that would include legislating taxes simply against them....
right now they are tax exempt because they fall under a nonprofit, not because there is a law specifically giving them this benefit alone...is my understanding.
Best news I've heard in a while!
Just take away their tax exempt status. This would mainly benefit the cities and states they reside in...they pay NO taxes on items purchased.
The thing about non profits is that while they may not bring in profits to the organization, they can be extremely profitable for members and employees.
The mega churches should definately be taxed
I don't know that there is anyway to do that and exclude the small, humble and meager churches but the mega churches with private stadiums and gymnasiums, sure. That's profit.
but churches usually do a lot for the community.
say eliminate the tax-exempt status period.
As long as charitable / non-profit organizations do what they claim to do, they won't have any income left over to tax anyway. Right?

Too many churches act like businesses.
Not all of what they do is good for the community

Which hides it's profits in off shore accounts in the Vatican Bank.
