Trump Administration Plans to Break Up Premier Weather and Climate Research Center

The Trump administration said it will be dismantling the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, one of the world’s leading Earth science research institutions.

The center, founded in 1960, is responsible for many of the biggest scientific advances in humanity’s understanding of weather and climate. Its research aircraft and sophisticated computer models of the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans are widely used in forecasting weather events and disasters around the country, and its scientists study a broad range of topics, including air pollution, ocean currents and global warming.

But in a social media post announcing the move late on Tuesday, Russell Vought, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, called the center “one of the largest sources of climate alarmism in the country” and said that the federal government would be “breaking up” the institution.

A friend of mine was part of a Nobel winning team of climate scientists who worked at NCAR. He's retired now, but he's still extremely disappointed to see a place he spent most of his professional career be closed for political reasons. The people who worked there were involved in the kind of scientific research Don finds uncomfortable, so it must be stopped.

Scientists, meteorologists and lawmakers said the move was an attack on critical scientific research and would harm the United States.

And so it goes.

When a place like that becomes political, that's what can happen.

About time. Weather prediction these days is worse than 30 years ago. The climate models produced nothing but false doom and gloom predictions that never materialized. Maybe after all the crazy is purged from the politicized monstrosity that is climate 'science' we can take another look at such things.

Katharine Hayhoe, a climate scientist at Texas Tech University, wrote on X that the institution is “quite literally our global mother ship.” She said nearly everyone who researches climate and weather around the world has worked at or with NCAR.

It “supports the scientists who fly into hurricanes, the meteorologists who develop new radar technology, the physicists who envision and code new weather models, and yes — the largest community climate model in the world,” she wrote, adding, “Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet.”

Mr. Trump routinely mocks climate change as a hoax and his administration has labeled virtually all efforts to study climate change, reduce the level of dangerous greenhouse gases in the atmosphere or protect communities from the impacts of global warming as “alarmism.”

There is some reporting in the Denver Post, based on an unnamed regime official, that this is retribution for Gov. Polis refusing to pardon trump loyalist Tina Peters.

Yeah. The goal appears to be that only MAGA-approved science is allowed from Central Planning.

Just like MAGA-approved economic figures, news, history and religion.

The world has seen this all before. We didn't learn.

Just another perfect example of authoritarianism: Threats, intimidation, revenge, punishment.

This is what his flock wanted. And they scream about freedom and liberty.

My friend was part of the research team.

AI Overview

While no individual NCAR scientist has won a Nobel Prize while at NCAR, numerous NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research) scientists and staff contributed significantly to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore, with NCAR providing critical modeling and support for IPCC reports. Also, NCAR-affiliated scientist Syukuro Manabe, who worked with NCAR pioneer Akira Kasahara, later won the 2021 Nobel in Physics for climate modeling, highlighting NCAR's foundational role in the field.

Note to Don. Shutting down a research facility isn't going to change history recording you as a dangerous climate change denier who did irreparable harm to the environment.

Your MMGW scam is over, Simp.

The lie has been exposed. No need to keep pissing away money on it.

You idiots politicize "science" and then ***** when the politics change and things get shut down.

LOL

Judging by the sheer volume of failed predictions that 'mothership' crashed a long time ago. Time to start over.

The market is up on a lower than expected (still 2.7%) inflation. Is there any reason to believe data coming from the regime? No.

A senior White House official, who declined to be identified, said in response to the announcement that Colorado constituents would be better served if Governor Polis wanted to work with the president.

This is retribution over the convicted criminal, Tina Peters.

Okay. Now let’s look at the Powers of Congress as noted in Article I, Section 8 of the US Constitution…

To borrow money on the credit of the United States;

To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes;

To establish a uniform rule of naturalization, and uniform laws on the subject of bankruptcies throughout the United States;

To coin money, regulate the value thereof, and of foreign coin, and fix the standard of weights and measures;

To provide for the punishment of counterfeiting the securities and current coin of the United States;

To establish post offices and post roads;

To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries;

To constitute tribunals inferior to the Supreme Court;

To define and punish piracies and felonies committed on the high seas, and offenses against the law of nations;

To declare war, grant letters of marque and reprisal, and make rules concerning captures on land and water;

To raise and support armies, but no appropriation of money to that use shall be for a longer term than two years;

To provide and maintain a navy;

To make rules for the government and regulation of the land and naval forces;

To provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the militia, and for governing such part of them as may be employed in the service of the United States, reserving to the states respectively, the appointment of the officers, and the authority of training the militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

To exercise exclusive legislation in all cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten miles square) as may, by cession of particular states, and the acceptance of Congress, become the seat of the government of the United States, and to exercise like authority over all places purchased by the consent of the legislature of the state in which the same shall be, for the erection of forts, magazines, arsenals, dockyards, and other needful buildings;--And

To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof.[\quote]

Please show me where there is any mention of weather, climate, or even just basic scientific research being conducted by or funded by the Government

What good are research facilities if all they do is lie?
