So, you do not believe that military pay is included in the calculation of AVERAGE $119K? Where is your math. Show us the source for this figure.
Ideally, the government should run like a business in some respects, however there are many functions of government that would not fit any business model. Our government must respond to the desires of the people, even thou the response is costly and would reap few financial rewards. When we invaded Afghanistan we did so out of a desire to punish and destroy an enemy. When the US government helped Hatti after the recent earthquake and hurricane it was not out of a desire for financial rewards but rather a humanitarian action demanded by the American public. You could not make a business case for the cost of maintaining American's national parks, monuments, and wildlife sanctuaries. I doubt many people would support selling them off to developers to build private estates and amusement parks which would certainly be very profitable. Thousands of endangered species are costly to protect and we don't make a dine off of them. Think of what the last American Grizzly or Polar Bear would fetch on the open market. Etc. Etc......We can run government more business-like but we can't run it as a business be. To run government as a business would mean regulated capitalism would be replaced by socialism.
Didn't mean to say run our country AS a business.....but more LIKE one.....like doing better deals with foreign countries.....like keeping on budget....like protecting our interests.....like attaining reasonable goals....
