A question is on the forum about making Canada a State? I have a stronger question. Should Trump purchase Canada and have the citizens there divide it into a number of states? I would not want Canada to suffer being purchased by the USA and deny their citizens the right to select what becomes states. It would turn out ugly to impose that on Canada. So Canada can decide to be part of the United States and Trump by public will can hand them money for the purchase.
Would you oppose owning Canada? If you are in a hurry, spool this video to close to the end. Say around 16:30 minutes.

Don't want Canada. I was astounded that they kinda know they're on our "bad side" so to speak...I saw a commercial saying how great Ontario is recently, how great friends we've been in the past. Really? After all Canadians have done for the last 20 years is whine about us?

Sure, Canada is a part of England.
No, Canada is not part of England, but it is part of the British Commonwealth of Nations:

  • Independence
Canada gained more autonomy over time and became independent from the United Kingdom. The Constitution Act of 1982 ended Canada's dependence on the Parliament of Westminster and made Canada completely independent.

  • Commonwealth
Canada is a member of the Commonwealth, an association of independent countries that were once part of the British Empire. The Commonwealth's mandate is to support its member governments and citizens in political, economic, and social development.

    • Head of state
Canada's head of state is King Charles III, who is also the head of state of the United Kingdom. Canada's head of government is the prime minister.

    • Citizenship
Canadian citizens have not been British subjects since 1977, but they still have some privileges in UK immigration law.

    • Collaboration
Canada and the UK work together in international organizations to promote shared values and address global challenges.

Just who would we pay? Canada became an independent Commonwealth in 1867.
The Canada Act in 1982 formally adopted Canada’s constitution, severing the last legal ties with Great Britain. It represented a defining moment for Canada
It would be up to the people of Canada in a vote to become part of America.

Those are the Canadian Rockies in the background....

Those are as you say Rockies in Canada.
Who would we pay? We would pay those who agreed to be paid. If citizens in Canada favor it, give them the money. If the approval comes from their government, I guess we pay that government.

Did you notice those commercials started right after Trump threatened Canada with tariffs?

No I believe it would be a plebiscite vote and just a transfer and removal of the borders.
That is the way we grew from 13 states ro 50.
The last purchase of land was Seward's Folly in 1867 when he bought Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million. I always thought it was a great deal... It became a U.S. territory and the a State in 1958.

I have no objections to that happening between Canada and the USA.

We are not a part of England,.it is complicated I guess. The Criwn technically owns all of the land of Canada, we are self governed and independent though.

No offence to the US, but why would Canada want to join with it's annoying neighbour!! So that won't t happen.

And post #7 was truthful, anti cliche!! What's happening around here?

I know all about Canada. We got George Washington on our dollar.
That is an overly simplistic statement if there ever was one. England is part of the United Kingdom.
Canada has a King, the King of England.

I'm sure there are Pros and Cons to absorbing Canada - some obvious, some actually requiring some thought.

Is there any support for the idea up there?

Doubtful.

However, I suppose the ONE Province in which such an idea might take hold would be Quebec.

There are enough French-speaking Separatists up there to make-a-go of the idea, I suppose.

After all... the latest 'movement' in Quebec to break away occurred well within Living Memory, right?

Their best chance of breaking away would be for the Province of Quebec to apply for US Statehood.

And, once Quebec is gone, the floodgates might open in one or more other Provinces.

But even a separatist Quebec seems an unlikely prospect.

Besides... who wants a non-English -speaking State and out-of-synch culture to deal with?

It's probably best to leave Canada as-is unless we begin to pursue a North American Union of some kind.

An English-speaking Union.
