should the electoral college be done away with ?

is the electoral be done away with ?

  • yes.... its outdated and no longer needed .

    Votes: 6 16.2%
  • no... it was a system set up by the founding fathers to prevent mob rule and give smaller States

    Votes: 31 83.8%

  • Total voters
    37
Doing this would change how candidates campaign, for the better. It would also give people in the minority in states like Il and CA and WY a reason to get out and vote.

Keep the EC, just get rid of the winner take all
I like this idea! It puts every state into play. Conservatives get help in the big liberal states, and vice-versa.

It states that "that representatives should be apportioned based on the number of people in each state" .

There are no qualifiers in the statement.
The Preamble is titled “We The People” with no caveat….What do you think the presumption in those words was in 1787?

Illegal aliens aren't "in the State" they are passing through. They have no home, no job, and no connection to the State.

Where does it say “illegal aliens must be counted”?
Remember, our great framers authored everything under the strict presumption that we’d never have traitors in government, they assumed our sovereignty would always be treasured.
Founders never believed they would have people like the confederates or MAGA.

You just don't get that all countries that have elections use a popular vote with the exception of the U.S.
Those countries have no say over who the party chooses to lead. There are no primaries. Then again, Democrats haven't had a real one since 2008.

Ironically, Trump winning in 2016 was the best proof we had that American Democracy still existed.

Mob rule being how Repubs refer to majority rule since they are in the minority.

Here’s a scary question for you…Should illegals be counted for the apportionment of House seats?

If the Constitution says to count them, then they should be. And if that is the case then I'd be in favor of an amendment to remedy that situation.

Expand SCOTUS, do away with the EC, don't purge voter rolls

We see you

nope .. just research and inform yourself ..

Well now I know from reading the thread as I knew about the electrical college I just never knew what it actually was but it sounds like any place that isn't a big city so you learn something knew every day. :)

its something like that .. its really a point system to elect the POTUS .. each state has points to be won for the candidate that wins the majority vote in that particular state .. the more people that live in the state the more points are given to the candidate that wins that state .. for example a large state like California has 54 electoral points to give to the candidate that wins the popular vote in that state ..while a smaller state like Arizona has 11 points for the candidate that wins the popular vote in that state .. only one candidate for POTUS can win the popular vote in each state ..the 1 st candidate that wins enough states to get 270 or more points wins ..get it ? it makes each state an important part of how the country is led and governed .. hence the name THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA !

I think that I get it but I never really dug that far into it lol as I'm just focused on the votes not where they're coming from unless they're fraudulent.

should the electoral college be abolished ? if Trump loses the popular vote but wins the electoral college to become POTUS will Dems call for an end to the electoral college .. Walz called for ending the electoral college at a recent fundraiser ..

The president and vice president have no say on issues concerning the Electoral College. The only way the Electoral College can be eliminated is to amend the Constitution. Article V of the Constitution makes that plain. Tim Walz thinks that voters are stupid. He thinks that people who support abolition of the Electoral College will vote for Harris and him with the belief that they will increase the likelihood of that happening. Read Article V of the Constitution. There is no way that the Congress will pass abolition of the Electoral College. There is no way that a Convention of States will pass abolition of the Electoral College. Even in the unlikelihood of either of these occurring, there is no way that 3/4 of states (38) will vote to ratify it.
