WTF, the loonies have a Gay Pride Month and a Black History Month and replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day. Hell, if they insist on an Indigenous Peoples Day, use one from Gay Pride Month or Black History Month.

Columbus was a monster and a rapist. Just like trump.

Well that's just too ******* bad. But there isn't a single ******* thing you can do about Columbus or Trump. You're like a little snarly rat in a cage, gnawing off your own feet because you think you can slip through the bars. But you're impotent. You can't change a ******* thing.

So Happy Columbus Day! :laughing0301:

Celebrate Indigenous Peephole Day, honoring great Native American Voyeurs of history.

Personally I don't celebrate peoples who were conquered, I prefer celebrating the conquerors, after all they actually accomplished something. 🤷‍♂️

Besides there is no such thing as "indigenous people" in North America, everybody's ancestors originally came from somewhere else.

Should Indigenous Peoples Day f/k/a Columbus Day be a school holiday? Here's my take. If any teachers or students don't want to celebrate the second Monday in October as Columbus Day that's their privilege. Such teachers and students should spend the day, in classes (or at a Native Americans' museum).

They should spend the day as follows:
  1. An hour or two learning about the local tribes;
  2. An hour or two learning about inter-tribal conflict;
  3. An hour learning about the effects of smallpox, typhoid and diphtheria on the tribes;
  4. An hour learning about warfare and treaty breaking by Europeans; and
  5. An hour learning about tribes and conflicts in other areas.
It should not be a holiday because there is nothing to celebrate. OTOH Columbus Day can be a celebration; it's why we are here. And to our Canadian friends, Happy Thanksgiving!
no.

Some white guy got lost.

No. Too many school/bank/government holidays these days.

Xmas, New years, independence day, maybe one or two others, but enough is enough.

Columbus was the first Republican.

He didn't know where he was going when he left.
He didn't know where he was when he got there.
He didn't know where he had been when he got back.

And he did it all on borrowed money.

Actually, Americans get less holidays than most countries.

We only have six mandatory holidays (New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas)

By comparison,

Germany has 10
Japan has 16
China has 13
France has 11
Canada has 10
Italy has 12
the UK has 8

It's not "indigenous people's day", it's Columbus Day. We don't celebrate injuns, they're just people, fer Christ's sake. Just like any other people in the US. And no, it shouldn't be a federal holiday. The banks and post offices should be open just like any other day.

If we're going to celebrate Injuns, why not have a "Polish Day", a "Czech Day", or an "Irish Day"?
We all have the same day to celebrate. July 4th

Columbus was a monster and a rapist. Just like trump.

Cheer up, son. Here's a little song that's guaranteed to turn that frown upside-down...

In fourteen hundred ninety-two
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.

He had three ships and left from Spain;
He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain.

He sailed by night; he sailed by day;
He used the stars to find his way.

A compass also helped him know
How to find the way to go.

Ninety sailors were on board;
Some men worked while others snored.

Then the workers went to sleep;
And others watched the ocean deep.

Day after day they looked for land;
They dreamed of trees and rocks and sand.

October 12 their dream came true,
You never saw a happier crew!

"Indians! Indians!" Columbus cried;
His heart was filled with joyful pride.

But "India" the land was not;
It was the Bahamas, and it was hot.

The Arakawa natives were very nice;
They gave the sailors food and spice.

Columbus sailed on to find some gold
To bring back home, as he'd been told.

He made the trip again and again,
Trading gold to bring to Spain.

The first American? No, not quite.
But Columbus was brave, and he was bright.
