Anson was a huge pusher and advocate in establishing the color line in baseball. Should he be rewarded by continuing to be enshrined in Cooperstown.

There are definitely other racists in the HOF as well, like Ty Cobb. Should they be shown the door too?

If statues of Lee and Davis and Columbus are being removed, why should these racial busts be preserved?

ty cobb wasnt the racist he was made out to be ....i saw an interview with him when he was asked about blacks playing ....he said why not give me more competition....but you are right about Anson he was thee racist of that time...and i read that they were very close to oking it when anson spoke up and threatened the owners....some say thats why he did it.....

Because statues of Lee and Davis are erected on public property

Baseball is a private institution

Major League baseball is played in publicly owned stadiums, and is broadcast over the public airwaves.

I always wondered why Baseball enforced segregation while none of the teams were in the South

The Washington Senators played in DC while the Cardinals were in Missouri.

No teams played under Jim Crow rules

Racial segregation in America wasn't limited to the South back in the day.

baseball would have been so much better if anson would have kept his mouth shut as just played....

Baseball should not have pandered to the bigots
But most owners were bigots

they were also scared that Anson and other players would have carried out their threat....Anson was maybe the best player of that era...

Some “stars” tried the same act with Jackie Robinson

Who else was Anson going to play for?

Anson may have pushed segregation in the 1880s

But the one man who really enforced segregation was Kennesaw Mountain Landis

After WWI there was no reason to enforce segregation on negroes who fought for their country
Same after WWII

Landis enforced segregation even when owners were starting to oppose it

Anson was a great player and innovator in game technique. He likely influenced Spalding to a good degree to introduce spring training.

A lot of the stories about Anson are like those Stump wrote about Cobb. Stump was debunked long ago, so Anson is the lib's new whipping boy.

Just dig into the stories. For example, the story about Anson keeping George Stovey out of the National League are likely bogus because Newark never put Stovey up for sale in the first place.

Anson did not want to play against Moses Fleetwood, but few people know that Fleetwood was a separatist himself. He was a proponent of nationalism and thought it a good idea that coloreds go back to Africa. Fleetwood was also convicted of robbery and served time. He also stabbed a man to death in a brawl. Maybe Anson just didn't want to play with someone he might have viewed as a thug.

I think the HOF needs to acknowledge its years of racism and the impact on the country.
I don’t see how you can beat that dead horse any more than our institutions already have: Entertainment, academia, MSM, etc…

We’ve seen that episode 9000 times, we need new material… and I think the message is falling more and more flat. Slavery was like 160 years ago, your Democrat party’s Jim Crow laws have been gone for like 50+ years. Pointing fingers at white people doesn’t do anything but promote division
