SEATTLE — The push to defund the Seattle Police Department could lead to what's called the "Department of Community Safety and Violence Prevention."

City Council members introduced the idea of a new civilian-led department in a resolution on Friday as a place to house services that are moved outside SPD, such as the 911 call center.

Council staff members said the resolution would not abolish SPD, which would remain its own, smaller department.

They will be sending unarmed civilians to situations where they are going to get killed. Of course they will then blame guns and demand we ban them.

How many situations have police been called to, that they were not equip handle? Think about it. Here is one example where the lead should have been taken by someone else, with perhaps a police offer for back up.

Yes, because every 911 caller knows how to perfectly describe a situation so a 911 operator can determine if a responder needs to be a cop, or some unarmed social worker. There is no such thing as a concealed weapon, and each 911 caller will have a PH'd in behavioral sciences so they can tell the 911 operator, "the guy in a bikini yelling about lemmings is disturbed but not violent"

Don't you think 911 operators are trained to ask the right questions and evaluate the situation before determine who to refer it to?

Yes, but the choice now is police, ambulance, fire, and police go any time there is a question of potential danger to the other two. So what you would end up with is a smaller police force having to respond at the same time as a bunch of new agencies.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge it until you see how it works. Are there jurisdictions that already have it in place?
