In defense of Hugo Chavez, the dictator of a foriegn country, Sean Penn wants to send Americans to prison. The following quote is what he said on the Bill Mahr show.
I considered putting this in the humor section, but this guy just isn't funny any more.

from;
FOXNews.com - Sean Penn Wants Reporters Jailed for Calling Chavez 'Dictator'

"Every day, this elected leader is called a dictator here, and we just accept it, and accept it" said Penn, winner of two Best Actor Academy Awards. "And this is mainstream media, who should -- truly, there should be a bar by which one goes to prison for these kinds of lies."

Actually, Chavez is not a dictator, technically. He has terms limits and one more election in which he can be voted out.

But he does act like one(almost the power of one), so I do not see the problem in calling Chavez a dictator.

A totalitarian leader by any name is still a despot.

Just sayin'.

Well color me surprised. I'm actually on the same side of something with Slackjawed.

*checks the air for pigs*

But calling for 'prison' for saying he is a dictator is a little over the top, wouldn't you agree?

nope, I love the questions, the PROPAGANDA that you sometines present is not questioning. When it is PROPAGANDA, it provides aid comfort and support to the enemy and is therefore TREASON.

So when I highlight facts you don't like you simply label them as "Propaganda" then somehow twist that to "treason." What a fuxxing dumbass!

Of course.

I call Chavez a dictator. Why should I go to prison for stating an inaccurate opinion?

Sean Penn is probably A leftist idealist that have problems recognizing the dangers of charismatic leaders. On one hand, Chavez did put in a social system that help the needest and poor of the country. On the other hand, he pretty much punished many wealthy citizens for just having wealth, taking their properties and dignity for no apparent reason. Also, he has political prisoners and I question whether or not their human right are being violated because I can not find any HR groups willing to report on Chavez.

Also a big F$$$ ego as well, but then that start going my personal dislike of him.

Now while that is off topic, it does raise a very good question about our media.
I hold the opinion that spreading propaganda is treason, and offer as a precedent the Tokyo Rose case.
Influencing national elections in the name of "news" is treason, which has been documented by some of the media.
Raising false issues to 'care' the public and get them to do something in the name of 'news' is treason.

If your going to accuse FOX of doing it, which I believe is accurate in some, not all, but some cases, then you must admit that MSNBC is also one of the worst offenders.

Yes, I believe that propaganda hiding under the umbrella of being a 'news' organization is treason.
I also observe that all of our media seems to be engaging in it to some degree.

I also note that in order for treason or any crime to be punished, someone must prosecute the offender, and i just don't see that happening at present.

Read the news 2 times the term limit came to a vote and the Venezuelans voted it down. Come the 3rd time, in under a year I might add, it based and hugo can run and rerun forever.

Hugo has nationalized many private companies, he has shut down most private media outlets, and the very private ones NEVER write a single negative thing about him. He controls the labor unions, food, oil and most necessity industries. That is power.

Free elections in Venezuela are nothing more than a myth, Hugo fat ass is a tyrant!

Funny how the richest oil country in the region could only be one step above Haiti economically.

Hugo has improved the living conditions in his country.
While ours has dropped.

Just a factual observation.

Oh...Puh...LEEEZE!

Venezuela is an oil rich nation that Rations Electricity.

Chavez has destroyed the free media and has taken control of the food supply.

Venezuela's public finances are unravelling, with oil prices at $40 a barrel, while the national budget is calculated at $60 a barrel. Inflation is running at over 30 per cent, yet with the new measures Mr Chavez is seeking to ensure that his core support, the poor, can still fill their shopping baskets with food.

"If any industry wants to ride roughshod over the consumers, with a view to getting better dividends, we are going to act," said Carlos Osorio, the national superintendent of silos and storage. "For the government, access to food is a matter of national security."

Production quotas and prices have now been set for cooking oil, white rice, sugar, coffee, flour, margarine, pasta, cheeses and tomato sauce.

White rice, the staple for many Venezuelans, can now only be sold at a price of 2.15 bolivares (.07p) per kilo. Private companies insist that production of that kilo costs 4.41 bolivares (.14p) and that government regulations are impossible to fulfil and companies will quickly go broke. Companies that are dedicated to rice production must ensure that 80 per cent of their efforts are dedicated to white rice. The new regulations set production percentages, as companies were rebranding their products to avoid the government controls, like flavouring the rice, as the price restrictions apply only to white rice.

"Forcing companies to produce rice at a loss will not resolve the situation, simply make it worse," said Luis Carmona of Polar, a rice company that has been singled out by the government for trying to sidestep restrictions.

Government price controls on basic goods have been in place, in various forms, since 2003. But the restrictions have forced Venezuela to become increasingly reliant on imports of these products as local farmers will not supply the selected food staples at government prices. ...

In your socialist we dreams!

Ever since he took over, they have sunk and floundered! By the time he is done he will have turned Venezuela into Honduras. Wait until over the next decade the world gets of oil, they will be worse than Haiti!
