"Sinners" gets a record 16 Oscar nominations

Looks like he will get another win at Indian Wells later today .
Alcaraz must have been out of form to lose to Medvedev in the semis .
Sinner versus Medvedev in the final could be very one sided , particularly if the winner is extra motivated by picking up an Oscar .

Doesn't sound like a very interesting film. At the same time, it is also noteworthy, in the context, to ask how many non-white "vampires" one has ever seen in movies?

I'm about halfway through it now and so far I have to say it's earned it's nominations.

I don't even mind the occasional cracker and peckerwood references every now and again.

Some sort of funny M1911 action right off the bat. ;)

“Sinners” shattered a 75-year-old record for the most Academy Award nominations for a movie, earning 16 nominations including in top categories like Best Picture, Director and Actor for Michael B. Jordan, while “One Battle After Another” followed with 13.

*Jason Whitlock has taken a strong stance against “Sinners,” the latest film from director Ryan Coogler, calling it racially divisive and accusing it of pushing a harmful narrative.

Set in the racially turbulent South of 1932, “Sinners” follows twin brothers as they return to their hometown in hopes of a fresh start, only to find themselves facing a darkness greater than they imagined. As they open a juke joint for a night of music and drinks, a darker presence crashes the party—white vampires.

But Whitlock isn’t celebrating its success. In a video review posted online, he captioned his take with a warning: “‘Sinners’ has an explicit theme about white people being the ultimate evil.”

The sports commentator accused the film of promoting an anti-White agenda. “This movie is not intended to scare you, in my opinion,” Whitlock stated. “This movie has an explicit agenda-themed narrative and we’ve seen it over and over… They all beat the same drum; these evil White people and what they’ve done to Black people.”

'Hollywood isn't a secret cabal of racists. It's a secret cabal of people terrified of looking like racists,' Maher said.

'And I'm just tired of no matter how much progress is made, social justice warriors feeling the need to gaslight us as if none of it had happened.'

He also criticized the Academy for changing the rules to only make films eligible for Best Picture if they were made by a diverse cast and crew.

The rules stipulate that at least 30 percent of cast and crew have to be from at least two underrepresented groups. But there are also other ways to get nominated, including having a movie's subject matter or the lead actor being from underrepresented groups, among others.

Comment.
The movie literally demonizes people
Who wants to watch the Academy Awards that rewards Woke Racism?
Hollywood's Radicals are mining the racial divide and giving out awards for it.
The last time I watched the Oscars, Billy Crystal was the MC. Hollywood is a cesspool of Leftist arrogance and hate.

The Academy Awards are not about the best picture. They're about a leftwing message or pushing incoherent or immoral trash. There have been some exceptions, but can anyone imagine a movie like "Marty" winning today?

I finished it up and it was still good but I found the ending a bit disjointed.....It's like they waited the whole movie for the local crackers to get their deserves as more of an afterthought just to tidy things up.

Oh, stay for the scene after the first round of credits.

LOL....The character Cornbread was my favorite.

You guys are missing out living under a rock.

Sinners was a really good movie and crazy genre match up. First 60% is a good period piece story in the deep south and the last 40% is crazy vampire movie... have to see it to believe it. Not my favorite but really great movie.

Hamnet was my favorite movie. Now I cant say I enjoyed every second because it was a difficult subject but the movie floored me and the ending I'll never forget.

One Battle after another was mediocre to me. I dont get the hype. My wife liked it. I thought it was fine but it wouldnt make my top ten this year. I guess I am in the minority.

Bugonia was another wild ass crazy movie. I really enjoyed even the crazier ending.

F1 was a solid popcorn movie that looked good but was a mediocre told many times story.

Frankenstein was a fine watch. Looked good also. Nothing totally new here though.

Train Dreams and Sentimental Value were artsy movies that I thought were good. Not everyone will enjoy. Great acting and unique stories.

Didnt see Secret Agent or Marty Supreme

Sinners was a good watch. Strange transition to a vampire movie but hardly racist. I didn’t understand shooting the KKK guys at the end because it had nothing to do with the rest of the movie.

Frankenstein was very well done and presented the Mary Shelly version of Frankenstein not the Universal version

One Battle After Another was just plain boring with a silly plot and lame take on racism.

As best as I can figure when the Irish vamp turned the couple who told him of the coming morning attack by the KKK. Remember the hood and robe in their cabin?

KPOP Demon Hunters won best animated feature......

WTF???

I watched it a couple of months ago and I said to myself.....what a waste of 95 mins.

The featured song is okay.....but how can you build a story around a song?

Easy.....and this one actually won Oscars around it.
