Places I found gave depth to my visits to Scotland.
1. John O'Groats. Can't go much further North except for The Islands off the coast. Just so you can say you've been there.
2. Culloden...love that History stuff. Plenty there.
3. Isle of Skye. You can drive across a Bridge and it's just ..well..Isle of Skye. Folk music night at the pub (I just followed a chap with a Scottish Wecht drum on his backpack; asked him where he was going and he led the way.) When you ask for a whisky (I asked for a local; drop) stipulate no ice, water or mixer. The barman looked at his mate behind the bar and said quietly: we keep a couple of bottles for guys like you...and he went out of the bar and brought back a really beautiful tasting Scotch. And I never got the name but I still recall the smoothness and the taste. At the time I was into Hill walking so followed some easy walks. Magic.
4. Isle of Arran near Glasgow. I took a ferry over and used a bus. Went to Lochranza a couple of times; I don't know if the B$B still operates. Lovely old ruins near the foreshore and when walking in the misty rain some deer passed the way of a couple of old derelict cottages stopping in the yards to graze. Magic moment. Then walked Corrie Lan and just took it all in. Bussed it. Returned after a sleepover each time we went.
7. Consider the Burns Trail.

Though I did get kicked out of a pub on the way because the FishnChips I'd just bought were too detectable. Still don't get why as I was going to get a couple of takeaways to have with them after my beer.
8..and not another bloody castle!!!
9. And yes; visited Nessie but wasn't at home.
Was going back when Covid took that away.
Now how many did I miss? LOTS!! But that's where you just take your time and enjoy being there. I avoided the cities as much as possible.......after Rome, Paris and London there wasn't much to entice to City Centres. Village and town High streets were very cool indeed.
Relax and enjoy....even if you will have a tendency to drive on the wrong side of the road. lol
