And responding to the Haka; SCOTCH Haka is a tad ...different!!

Greg

That was awesome! Thanks. Now I will have that stuck in my head while golfing today. Would wear a kilt if I had one.

I have actually never seen Braveheart, all I know about it is the "Freedom" clip.

And very enjoyable; a Scotch Mist is just like any other misty day I suppose but not too damp and drizzly light rain is quite pleasant walking weather. Goatfell during such is a fond memory. I included Brodick Castle (sp) in the walk. Many spots to smoke my pipe and just take it all in.

Greg

Are you able to actually see that breathtaking landscape, with all that mist and fog around?

I recall sitting quietly for an hour or so in a pheasant hunters hide sheltering from the snow when it cleared and the view was...well...indescribable. Mostly I set out in fine weather; must have been a sight in sandals, shorts, T-shirt and gaucho if required. lol. In snowy weather of course I was properly attired. Looking down at the village during the twilight was amazing; no twilight here. Sub-tropical.

I've read up on Wallace; nothing like the movie. lol

Is that why they drive on the that side of the road?

I did not know that, but it sure makes sense!
Just got it; right hand for combat. Keep left. Was George Washington or one of the French Kings left handed I wonder?? That'd explain a lot!! lol

I never got my head around why they would enlist the help of a decadent European king to get rid of one they’d already got.

Double standards?

Or maybe because Benjamin Franklin had a penchant for ladies of the French Court.

Stirling Castle is a must see simply for how significant it has been throughout Scottish history.

There are so many and yes; been there. I accidentally got "lost" in Edinburgh and ended up where they do the Tatoos each year; didn't seem particularly big but after chatting with the guy at the entry and asking where I was he let me in as I was unable to reverse due to traffic. I was just a dumb Aussie after all..............and a very fond memory. At the 1:18 mark; not that it was on at the time of course.

Didn't get to go inside Edinburgh Castle or Stirling Castle but had already done dozens of castles and Chateaus and Cathedrals by then. lol

Most noteworthy maybe of Stirling Castle was actually not in the Castle itself. Who has not heard?

Scots, wha hae wi’ Wallace bled,
Scots, wham Bruce has aften led,
Welcome to your gory bed,—
Or to victorie.—
Now ’s the day, and now’s the hour;
See the front o’ battle lour;
See approach proud Edward’s power,
Chains and Slaverie.—
Wha will be a traitor-knave?
Wha can fill a cowards’ grave?
Wha sae base as be a Slave?
—Let him turn and flie.—
Wha for Scotland’s king and law,
Freedom’s sword will strongly draw,
Free-Man stand, or Free-Man fa’,
Let him follow me.—
By Oppression’s woes and pains!
By your Sons in servile chains!
We will drain our dearest veins,
But they shall be free!
Lay the proud Usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in every foe!
Liberty ’s in every blow!
Let us Do—or Die!!!

Robert Burns

Walked the battle area while there; saw the monument to Robert the Bruce etc etc etc. Real sense of History of course.

Yeah, Bannockburn is just a few minutes away. Myself and the wife spent a couple of months there about 20 years ago.

We are planning a return before I kick the bucket!

The girlfriend is Scottish born and bred. We live Southern Scotland and over the past year, still waiting for that ideal building plot to appear, then we're moving. But she DOESN'T want to live in Scotland, and I second her on that. We both agree Scotland is dreadful.

So looking to move back to England, either Northumberland, Cumbria, Lancashire. Either way, Northern England, the South is a dump, Midlands no better.

From Lands End to John o'Groats, the middle is the best part.
