At the time the 2A was written the society was much smaller and better able to self police. The mentally ill would not, most likely, have been permitted access to weapons by family and neighbors rather than force of government. In this case that proscription was not in effect, the mental illness was coddled and encouraged.

This is the sort of "activism" that they've employed at every step along the way. In 1969, the Stonewall Riots (re: "gay liberation") loomed over the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association. At that time, the APA's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual listed homosexuality as a diagnosis, IOW, a mental illness. Further protests that targeted the APA annual meetings in 1971 and 1972 maintained the arm-twisting. Finally the APA relented and removed homosexuality as a mental illness diagnosis in the 1973 revision of the DSM (revision II). The psychotic tranny crowd is certainly a smaller group, but they are using the same playbook, on steroids. Plus, the liberal media multiplies their influence. This has to stop.

In the change from the DSM-IV to the DSM-V, the APA did the same by changin Gender Identity Disorder to Gender Dysphoria, and making a distinction between gender non-conformity and gender dysphoria. It states that that gender non-conformity is not a mental disorder, but avoids saying explicitly whether gender dysphoria is a mental disorder.

The science did not change, only the politics. Obviously, Gender Identity Disorder still exists as a mental illness. We know this due the incredibly high suicide rate among transgenders, which has never been shown to be reduced through hormones and/or surgery in any valid study.

I agree that gender non-conformity is not a mental disorder. Much of the time it is nothing more than kids being confused and expressing their confusion in ways encouraged by the media, much like goth kids, punk rock kids, pants on the ground kids, and all the other teenage foolishness kids get caught up in.

People who take advantage of that temporary confusion to charge Obamacare compliant insurance policies hundreds of thousands of dollars to medicalize kids and cut them up are the purest of evil, I don't care how many nor what letters they have after their names.
