Hello. I couldn't find a thread about this issue.

As we know, in Ukraine there was a "Orange Revolution" resulting Yushtchenko comeing to power.
Russia has the worldwide most Gas reserves in the world.
The EUs main supplier of Gas is after Norway Russia.

Russia does export around 100 Billion cubic meter of gas to EU. 80% of this export leads through Ukrainian soil and pipeplines.

With the "Orange Revolution" Ukraine has neared itself to the EU away from Russian influence. EU gave Ukraine "economy market" status and Yushchenko said his aim is to be EU member in the future.

Russia does withnatural reccources politics. For example Belarus pays for a cubic meter of gas 46 $. Armenia pays 50 $.

Germany pays around 220$.
Georgia paid 68 $. After Sakashvilli comeing to power via "Velvet Revolution" Georgia nw pays 180 $.

Ukraine paid so far 50 $. Kreml owned Gas-company Gazprom now wants 230$ from Ukraine. Ukarine can't pay this price. It is almost 5 times of the price than with former Pro-Kreml government in Kiev.

The new price is valid from 1-1-2006.
The last weeks over there is a rhetoric duel between Russia and Ukraine. Russia says: "When you don't pay the new price we will cut the supply of gas. You will only get Transit-fees for the Gas which goes through your soil"

Ukraine says: "Then We will cut 15 % of all Gas which leads through our territory. Even if it is for EU. We can not pay a price which is 5 times bigger than before. Additionally we will close or Sevastopol. Or demand a bigger price/fee for Sevastopol"...

Sevastopol is in Ukrainian territory on the black sea. But there lies the Russian military NAvy forthe Mid-Terrinian and the Black sea. On this port.
When Ukraine got independence, Russia and Ukraine agreed on a mutual "friendness-treaty" that Russia can use Sevastopol for a fix fee.

Now Russian Foreign MInister Iwanow says: "Sevastopol is written in the friendniess-treaty of our 2 countries. You can not change this expectng no Russian proper reaction to this"....

Gazprom announced now that it will send live via TV on 1-1-2006 for Russian TV-consumers how Ukrainian gas-supllies will be stopped.

It is leading to a conflict. Russia uses naturalreccources to harm anti-Kreml elements or recompence pro-Kreml governments in ex-Soviet states.
Look What Belarus and Armenia pay for GAs. And what Georgia and now Ukraine must pay. Allthough it will harm Ukrainian citizen and economy.

Russia is getting more and more aggressive. Some weeks ago they cut electricity- exports to Moldavia which lead there to darkness.

Additionally Russia stopped meat-ipmorts from Ukraine saying meat from Ukraine does not match Russian veterinary standards.

Last week Kreml decided to close all NGOs (Soros & Co.) in Russia which are financed by the West. They fear the same happening by them as it did in Ukraine and Georgia.

Kreml closeing newspapers and TV-stations which are not controlled by Kreml is another case. Additionally Russia forbid German "Deutsche Welle" and English BBC to send their Radio-program in Russia.

For the Ukraine gas dispute here is the russian view of it:

The Russian bear is slowly but steadily awakening.

And the bad of all this is they are swimming in money through all these Reccources export.
About 75% of Russias exports are natural reccources. Russia exported more than than it imported this year. Inthis export-import mathematics they have a export PLUS of 135 billion $ this year.
Russians central bank reserves are growing.

Yes Canavar, you have my attention. I have a dear friend in the Ukraine, that desperately wants to come to US/Canada with her husband and child. Funny thing, she never once thought of France, Germany, or even UK. She is a doctor, dermatology. Her husband a master electrician. Her daughter is 6. I have a hard time understanding why it's so hard for her to come to US, when there are so many illegals, to pick crops, streaming in.

The problem is: The EU is dependent on Russia's natural Reccources. They do not therefore say anything to Russia. Be it Putin turning Russia into Dictatorship or punish anti-Kreml Governments in ex-Soviet states.

It is even worse. Germany and Russia agreed on a Gas pipeline through he Baltic sea. You can see this Pipeline in the Picture i posted above (Planned pipelines).

This Pipeline is a consortium of Gazprom (Russia)+ EON and BASF (Germany).
Putin and Schröder agreed on this deal. Schröder will now be the CEO of this new Company which is being formed by this consortium. The construction began this month. The pipeline has a volume of approximate 35 Billion cubic meter of gas per annum.

Some East-European States are dependent on the current Pipelines fees leading from Russia to Europe over East-European states.
This pipelines aim is to harm these East-European States which are not anymore pro-Kreml (namely Poland and Ukraine)... To dispass this fees on which these states are dependent.

The EU isn't emancipated enough to say:" Stop Russia"... In order for Energy and Natural Reccources they let Russia free hand. And the EU is getting more and more dependent on Russia.
I think the gas-dispute with Ukraine won't be solved. Russia will stay at its course.

The orange revolution in Ukraine was so bad for Russia in geo-politc manners. I think it is a sign for the voters in Ukraine. Something like a message from Russia :"Look voter!! we can make you bleed if you stay this course and near yourself to the west."
You must imagine from 50 $ upto 230$. This is insane. Whilst Belarus, Ukraine's neighbor is still paying 46 $. But there is a Putin-like Dictatorship in Belarus.
Ukraine is being punished for its course towards transperency, democracy. I hope they will stay their course. But Russia can still harm them much. Let's see and wait. The date 1-1-2006 is critical: either Ukraine will pay more for Gas or they will "steal" Russian gas which is meant for EU but leads through Ukrainian pipelines.

Look Here. This is real Kreml-Propaganda.

(...)
But Gazprom said no and invited TV crews to film it Sunday cutting off gas to Ukraine.
http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/view.php?StoryID=20051230-041330-2028r

Kreml will use Ukrainians dillema for Propaganda on TV. To show the russian citizens :"We are powerfull, we cut gas supplies. At a time we want and a situation we want".

This is real sarcastic. A TV-event for Russian nationalism.

Thank you Canavar, you have listed the reasons that our old 'allies' are no longer such. Wake up DC, they are our enemies.

Ok. It's Russia, China, Iran, North Korea VS. The rest. Is everyone ready?
