A Russian filmmaker has stunned state TV pundits by concluding it was important the country admitted it could lose the war to Ukraine.

In a clip that has now gone viral on social media, Karen Shakhnazarov, director general of studio Mosfilm, said individuals arguing that the West was about to fall or that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was simply a puppet were "deluding" themselves.

This attitude is rarely seen on Russian state TV as guests regularly predict the demise of Western nations like the U.S., the U.K., France and Germany, allies who have committed to supporting Ukraine's war effort.

WOW....
That's a complete reversal for State Television in Russia. Usually it's just propaganda.

I'm not sure that was Abraham Lincoln who said that....but whatever.

I completely agree that if Russia continues on their current plan....they will lose. They are not achieving ANY of their stated goals and in fact are further away from them now than before the war.

The Putin regime will never admit they have suffered any lose in Ukraine. There will be stories like 'Kiev feint' or 'Kharkiv regrouping' being pushed by propaganda through paid actors like Ritter or MacGregor or useful idiots in the West.

Taking into consideration that Russia will mostly keep the occupied lands, these narratives will be based around this.

Pretty ironic timing considering Russia is tightening it's grip on eastern Ukraine & is enclosing the city of Bakhmut.

The ones "deluding" themselves are the ones that think Russia will lose to Ukraine without direct NATO involvement in the fighting.
In other words, outside WWIII, Ukraine is toast, it's just a matter of when at this point.

Russia will not be able to keep them.
They have solidified Ukranian resistance and will be subject to ongoing guerrilla warfare tactics for years to come if they try.

The Russians have obliterated entire villages....there's no infrastructure left. Nothing but broken cement and bricks is what is left of most occupied villages and homes. And considering the volume of shells being fired into Bakhmut....not much is going to be left of that city either.

Bridges destroyed, villages destroyed, mines destroyed, smelters and refineries destroyed....exactly what is it that they are going to occupy? Dirt? And what people are going to rebuild and work for Russians after the Russians destroyed their homes?

Yes, what remains out of those towns and villages in the Donbas 'liverated' by the Russian army is mostly ruins. But they started this war to gain more territory and they are doing that no matter what is left on that land. Russia outnumbers Ukraine, and that is a crucial point.

You might be right....but it still won't go well for Russia there. Guerrilla wars are difficult to win while there is a hostile border. Just saying.

I wouldn't put much hope on a guerilla war in this region.

Why is that?

I'm not hoping for anything...just watching and making assessments.

With guerrilla warfare the spies and dissidents are among the people blending in as best as possible. Israel has been fighting guerrillas and terrorism for decades without complete success. And they are one of the most strict places when it comes to that sort of thing with lots of spies and intelligence of networks. They usually are heavy handed and over reaching with their controls....but it's still not been successful.

Why do you think Russia is going to be trouble free in its occupation of Eastern Ukraine?

Lokot Republican ´s resistance to ussr´s occupation held until 70s

In the 1950s and 1960s, several other former officials of the Autonomy were apprehended by the KGB; some of them were also sentenced to death, most notably the Lokot Autonomy's executioner Antonina Makarova-Ginzburg, found in 1978 and sentenced to death.[12]

'Trouble free' is an outstretched term; not effective, maybe.

Three main reasons:
Eastern Ukraine, alongside with Crimea, were the most pro-Russia regions.
Mostly forest-less, plain terrain with relatively high density of population in Donbas.
Russian special services are quite effective in shutting the dissenters.

The reasons for the "pro Russia" sentiments were the thousands of Russians who were sent there and were a mix of banned Russians and paid dissenters (like Soros did with ANTIFA supporters) This is a matter of record and Russia has admitted that they did this. So claiming that these places are full of ethnic Russians is not a complete lie....but it's mostly a lie.
These aren't exactly the most politically astute people to begin with....actually holding a strong opinion about anything except the need for another drink is usually beyond the scope of their normal behaviors. (You really need to trust me on this one...it's so Slavic to waffle on any opinion over a dozen times before tepid assent is granted about anything....including what to have for lunch)

I've never met a Slavic who did not have an intense mistrust of Russians to begin with. Even when they live in the region with benign purposes. I was whispered to many times, "Be careful of that one, they are Russian" while visiting the region by those I met and was friendly with. Of course nobody trusted any Romanian at any time....with good reasons.

Ukraine has been extremely organized and held clear lines of communication with its fighters in every area....been capable and able to perform complex maneuvers with multiple platoons and divisions in harmony with each other through these communication channels. So them having well trained guerrilla warfare teams keeping hostilities and troubles for the Russians ongoing during any occupation ....I can see happening.
