my guess is that this has nothing to do with annexing, Ukraine, NATO, Nazis. etc; It is about governing the World by manly and brutal oligarchy.

Obama Biden Clinton were and still are staunch defenders of western liberal democracy. Putin’s ultimate objective is to end western liberal democracy because he says it’s too untidy and incompetant to serve the people; and there is a bit of the white supremacy and homophobia aspect of what he thinks the world needs as well.

The need is for authoritarian power in the hands of the few. Globally, in 2020 the pandemic kept him at bay from invading Ukraine in conjunction plus perhaps he didn’t have the military assembled to launch a two week invasion to overtake Ukraine during the summer of 2020.
