Merkel made the right decision on shutting them down. She was confident that Germany could safely wean itself off of nuclear and petroleum based energy over the stated period of time that was needed.

But that was before America got it's foot in the door and upset the equilibrium in the oil and gas markets in Europe.
Now it's broken and Russia has no incentive to fix it!

So shutting down a clean and safe source of power was the right decision. How about you shutting down your hydro power in favor of green sources. I’m sure we would all enjoy listening to you complain IF you could manage to get on line. The government should never risk changing to a new power source without ironclad proof it will be better AND as dependable as the old source. Renewables are neither at this time. Maybe in a decade or two that will change, but right now renewables are a recipe for disaster.

The drilling equipment manufacturers haven't ramped up their equipment production because the big boys aren't re-investing in drilling, so the little guys are short of pipe and other equipment.
