This isn’t about what ought. The world rarely is. It’s about what is and currently Ukraine isn’t in a position to negotiate the return of the Donbass and Luhansk. They were back in April/May of 22 when Biden rejected that very offer. How about the US just supports what the Ukrainians want? Which is a brokered peace, including giving up territory to the Russians to get it.

Remember Candidate Trump said he would end the Ukraine war. Now that he's president and has to deliver what is he saying?
