Thought he had died years ago; drugs or something.

Positive up beat music along with lyrics with a positive message. Much needed in that time in history. We need artist like him today. Rest In Peace .

For sure. He and that band were very distinctive in their sound and their vibe. I saw them perform way back in 1972 , and they sure put on a great show.

He was an awesome musician, I met him in the Haight back in the 1970's and we talked about our mutual music likes.

He was just two years older than me:(

The Haight. I spent lots of time there back in the late 60's and early 70's. Sly was definitely innovative in his own right.

I think that his band was one of the best crossover groups of any era. It must have been quite an experience to meet him.

Yeah, I spent a lot of time there too. And absolutely on the innovative nature of the group. They were far more interesting than anyone except for Jefferson Airplane at that time.

I used to hang out at Sgt. Peppers and I had a bi sexual girlfriend who took me to Romeo's from time to time.

Fun times.

Stop saying that West--- it is common now for a lot of people to live into their 90s or even 100s.

Just ask Dick Van Dyke. And he drank like a fish for years.

Or George Burns who chain-smoked cigars until his last day.

Hey buddy, I am in great shape mentally, physically though I am starting to break down. It's life!

But don't worry about that, I have plans to go on a cruise for my 100th birthday!

I believe Sly wrote "Somebody to Love" for Jefferson Airplane.

Sly Stone, the frontman of Sly and the Family Stone, has died after a long battle with COPD, which is a lung condition. He was 82.

Stone's family shared a statement with Fox News Digital.

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved dad, Sly Stone of Sly and the Family Stone. After a prolonged battle with COPD and other underlying health issues, Sly passed away peacefully, surrounded by his three children, his closest friend, and his extended family," the statement began.

Comment:
Sly was a great entertainer, musician, writer, and performer.
They don't make great music like his anymore.
