RIP: Lilly Ledbetter, the activist who inspired Fair Pay Act, dies at 86

This has nothing to do with negotiations, it's a statutory correction of a fault in one of our laws that was blatantly exploited.

Under normal circumstances, the statute of limitations doesn't start running until the discovery of the violation, which makes sense and is how it should be. You can't expect people to take action for a violation of their rights that they are unaware of. So, the Lilly Ledbetter Act makes causes each issuance of a paycheck to restart the 180-day statute of limitations in which the claimant has to file their claim.
It has everything to do with negotiations.

Ledbetter's salary was in the upper 30s. There were about 15 other managers like her--all men. The lowest paid male manager's salary was in the low 40s. The highest male manager's salary was in the lower 50s. Explain that with your "gender" theory.

You are a misguided individual. You deny the evidence before you. That makes you special.

Women earn less because they work part-time, take off more, take care of kids, and don't speak up.
This is absolutely the case. When you look at college-educated women under 30 without children, they actually out-earn their male counterparts by 8%.

What happens is that married women who have children take multiple maternity leaves, or “stop out” for years, and they don’t make the career loss back.

Plus, cat food is way cheaper than diapers and formula.

I'm really sorry to hear that yet we women persevere nonetheless generally because we have no real alternate choices.

Thank you for acknowledging that this does happen and not for reasons as silly as women don't work as hard or that we take more time off.

But you don't help making your case when you throw around "84 cents on the dollar" accusations and people then find out that number is a generalization that doesn't take into account variables such as experience, time in service, and other contributors to a person's salary.

Open minded much?
I know better than to posit about things I have no knowledge of as well as how to support my statements & claims with evidence.

Since you're self-identifying as a "black woman..." how about showing some of that Black Girl Magic that some of us have going on instead of sounding like an empty-headed puppet simply parroting what others claim.

That's actually VERY true.

About 10 years ago I happened to work at a job that I had a female coworker. We literally had the exact same job title. We worked side by side in the same office room. Well, she would ALWAYS be gone for something. She would leave for an hour for lunch, I would eat lunch at my desk. She one time even got caught claiming to go to a doctor visit, and then I found her car at her 2nd job on my way home. So she was double dipping as she was salaried at her main job. Part of our job was entering new orders into the computer. Well the computer keeps track of who enters what. I calculated one day, I entered 97% of all orders that day. And we were at like 30 new orders when I calculated so basically I entered 29 of them.

Fast forward a few months and my boss's side company, a party rental company, had a huge job and needed help loading tents tables and chairs into a truck for an event. Well my coworker surely wasn't going to get her fat ass out of the chair and go help, so guess who did, and it wasn't even in my job description? ME. I was simply WORTH MORE to my boss because I DID MORE than my female coworker. Even though, on paper, we had identical jobs, we really didn't. It had nothing to do with her being female, but refusing to do ANYTHING but what was on her computer screen.

My boss got really pissed about that. So I can see why women make less.

"Equal pay for equal work" sounds cute, but its the "equal work" that is the catch. Not necessarily "equal job description or job title". If a man has two employees like my boss did, one male one female, and he needs help with physical labor, he's going to go to the male for that. Well, the male will want to be PAID for that extra work, thus his extra pay.

It took me a minute to figure out what you were griping about. That line of text which contains the substring of "84 cents on the dollar" is a hyperlink to an NPR story entitled "It's Equal Pay Day. Women Earn '84 cents for every dollar that men make -- or even less'.

Furthermore, the news article I posted was not written by me, I just happen to be familiar with who Ms. Ledbetter is, as well as having followed her case.

I posted this story to acknowledge her passing and to show how she, although relatively unknown to most people, made history for women all throughout the United States even if they were unaware of what she accomplished.

It takes a special kind of small minded and petty POS to disparage a person whose strength and bravery won protections that didn't even benefit her, but benefits all other women, including them.

Nah, she just basically made the expense of payroll more for employers who employ women as well as men, even though the men outwork the women. But because this woman came along, now all of a sudden he has to try to justify paying a woman the same as a man, even though 9 times out of 10 the man is more qualified and/or works harder than the woman does. Doesn't need off for maternity leave, etc. Inevitably, the boss man will eventually ask the man to do things that the woman won't be asked to do.

With women come drama. A lot of employers just don't want that. I worked in an office where besides the head boss man, I was THE ONLY GUY THERE. The amount of ******* drama in that hell hole could have filled a stadium. I couldn't stand it. Then I got a job at the airport with all guys, and the job was SOOOOO SMOOTH.

Your anecdotal stories are not evidence unless they're documented somewhere, such as with the government or is a part of a case file or investigation?

They aren't "anecdotal" they are MY DIRECT EXPERIENCE. And I never claimed they were "evidence" of anything. What the **** are you reading?

So a black woman who disagrees with you is just parroting what others think? Any chance she is an intelligent person who thinks for herself? You’re as bad as Obama, berating black men who have decided Trump is a better choice.

Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving person.

Women don’t belong in the workplace. Never have and never will. Especially not when they’re being given preferential treatment to get them hired in the first place.z

The issue is actual pay discrimination being lumped in with acceptable pay differentials based on experience or even class of work.

These things exist. That is a major issue with a multicultural and everything else nation we are. There are ums in employment. And unfortunately, there are people in the same employment who mess with other for any reason. And that has helped to cause the situation we live with today. What is telling is that any of those that messed with others never stand up in a legal way to admit it. Our society loses to some extent on this.
