In the second round, awarded in 2009 Russia and China got the oil contracts. Not the US. If we had gone in for oil we could have simply taken over the oil fields. We didn't.

Actually we didn't have to take over the oil fields in a war for oil. What did happen is the oil money goes to the government of Iraq and we get to sell them Abrams tanks and fighter jets etc.

But UK and U.S. OIL companies were looking forward to bidding on those contracts that China got. The trouble is the dumbasses (Bush Blair) that decided to invade had convinced themselves that their nations of mostly Christian orientation could bomb, invade, kill Muslims that were not hiding WMD, and occupy Iraq and then would be greeted as liberators.

Well that didn't work out that way and Iraq got to be way too violent for USA and the UK oil companies to do business there. Chinese oil companies are quite a bit less skittish about working in a war zone with the corrupt government that the invading countries set up.

Just because it didn't work out with the 'greeted as liberators' malarkey it does not mean the intent to get oil contracts in Iraq favorable to the invading government' oil companies.
