Retailers caught red-handed using Trump's tariffs as cover for price gouging

California uses inflated wages and prices to mask their gentrification agendas. Works great in San Fransisco, so LA has taken up the mantle.
Gentrification has done great things to Detroit. It took the young white hipsters to come to the city and clean it up. Invest in it.

I recall reading weeks ago that scumbags such as Walmart were raising prices literally in anticipation of tariffs.

It’s just sleazy price gouging for a number of retailers.

In recent weeks, headlines have been filled with warnings from major retailers about impending price hikes due to tariffs reinstated by President Donald Trump. Big Box stores like Walmart and Target have been quick to suggest that tariffs on imported goods, particularly from China, have left them with no choice but to raise prices for American families.

Let’s be clear, these decisions are more about raising profit margins and going against Trump’s agenda to bring costs down for Americans than responding to any actual economic pressure.

Do you know what " replacement cost"
Means?

Offhand, I’d suggest that since the tariff on say imports of raw materials is paid for on OUR end of the transaction, the price per unit of products requiring that material is certain to go up. It follows that the sellers of the products in question will need to increase prices to cover their higher cost of production.

It does not qualify as “price gouging” to cover their additional costs of production.

It is my understanding that the impact of higher tariffs isn’t a savings to the consumers on the end of the market. Instead, it spurs a search for alternative sources for these materials and often leads to increased employment here. That is the eventual goal of Trump’s Tariffs.

It also becomes a useful tool for international negotiations. I like the fact that it has a dual purpose.

Like with any tool, it not only comes with costs but also risks. But given the apparent disdain for fairness in trade we were the victims of for so long, I still support the President’s use of this tool. At least until some actual balance is achieved.

The search for alternatives to tariffs could lead to increased employment in those business sectors, but less employment in the higher-priced sectors, right? It depends on the specific sector, their prices go up and consumers look elsewhere OR they do without. I am not sure that overall employment rises at all, we recently saw the UE numbers going the wrong way in July.

There was tons of price gouging under Biden when they blamed inflation but they just cranked up profits.

They didn’t try to blame supermarkets, they blamed food production industry where they increased profit margin and made record profits. Increased profit represented about half of inflation in food prices according to estimates made by the federal reserve.
Who blamed? What company did xiden and harris prosecute for price gouging?
