Republican, Democrat or Independent?

What political party are you?

  • Democrat

    Votes: 8 21.1%
  • Republican

    Votes: 5 13.2%
  • Independent

    Votes: 26 68.4%

  • Total voters
    38
  • Poll closed .
I'm a registered Democrat, for business purposes (also, where I live, the Democratic primaries are the elections that matter).

I work for a third party though.

Yeah, not a member of any party until I find one that is pro guns, social security, choice, porn, gay marriage, military, right to die and pollution controlls while being anti states rights and out of my personal business.

Anti States rights? So you support our Right to bear arms, but not our states rights? How do you plan to keep those arms with an all powerful Fed?

lol

How do YOU plan to keep them with an all powerful STATE government?

ARe you really simple-minded enough to think that fascism only exists in the FEDERAL LEVEL?

Apparently you are.

Retard post of the day.

No, he makes a valid point.

I believe in a huge amount of personal freedom - completely social libertarian, pretty much an anarchist. Why should I accept laws from "states" that I wouldn't accept from the federal government?

LOL, most independents are just embaressed Republicans.

I loved the jump of independent registrations from about 2006 to 2008.

the rest claimed to be libertarians.
But still think we should be the police force of the world.

im embarrassed for both of these parties.....and i feel sorry for those who cant see how both are fucking everyone over....and US i work with mostly "Democrats" whom a hell of a lot, now say they are basically " Independant"....

Oh, I'd say independents comprise about 50% embarrassed Republicans, 50% embarrassed Democrats. Unfortunately, people still vote along Party lines which is sad. I will say that at least with Democrats you usually know what you're getting. Republicans, not so much. And as you've stated correctly, you cannot be a libertarian and believe the US should police the world.

i kinda think its the other way around X.......MANY Democrats tell the gays they are for their rights, until the voting starts.....then for some reason like here in Cali, the right gets voted down.....while MANY Republicans just tell them to their face they are against their rights....

I have been a registered Republican for over 20 years

Ive been here long enough and Im still trying to figure out which way USMB leans. Or does it float this way and that? So....which party are you? Or none of the above (independent)?
And again..nobody can see how you vote, nor do you need to explain why.

I will state upfront I am independent. Ill vote Repub or Dem. Whomever I feel will do the best job gets my vote.

Honestly I am a registered Republican, but do not vote for the party, I vote for the person running.

Fuck a duck. This board is 85% Independent. Who knew?
Obviously a load of crap. Less than 2% vote for someone outside the 2 Parties. Republicans are Rightly ashamed to admit they vote Republican.

I think most people are just plain disgusted with both parties. They end up being Indies. and those that remain in the parties are loyalists or extremists.

Most of the people just want common sense leadership and legislating without political games.

You are correct. It depends on the issue. What I had in mind was that when Democrats say they are for bigger government and all that implies, they mean it. With Republicans, you never know.

Exactly. The discussions here are the most partisan and lockstep I experience anywhere, yet 76% of the board is 'Independent?' ......:rofl:

There is a cool 'Mavericky' movement from the traditional Republican Party which has a good number of anti liberals considering themselves independents. Not a bad thing at all. While I cant figure out a way to outlaw them or even create a three party system, entrenched political parties make me nervous.

Back to the topic of states rights.

In my life it has been local and state governments taking away rights. First you can not own a parts car. Then I can't fire my gun. Then its a dry county. Then you must have bisque color siding on your house. Then some official religion's creation theory is taught in class.

A hundred years ago during a frenzy of big government prohibition took effect then it got overturned.

Besides that it has been article after article of folks sueing states and municipalities in larger courts to get their rights back.

Liberals on this board routinely make 2 claims..... One is they are Moderates and the other is they are Independents. We have numerous threads going back years calling them out on their claims.

I honestly believe something has changed since 08. Ex Republicans make up this Tea Party. There is no crazy ultra democrat new fourth party.

Well, a similarly small number of Democrats appear to have tied their colors to the mast, so perhaps we shouldn't rush to judge one way or the other.

And just because people might vote for a Rep or Dem does not mean they would naturally describe themselves as either.

That said, the number who describe themselves as Independents surprises me.

I didn't say anything about one party vs. the other. I just think it's hysterical that everyone here considers themselves independent.

Hint: If you're disenfranchised from one of the parties because they 'Act too much like' the other party? You ain't independent.

I'm sure there are more... But off the top of my head, I can only think of two who I'd consider truly 'independent'...

Myself? No. I'm a Democrat; even though I've never registered as such, making me technically independent, it would be disingenuous to describe myself as such.

I would consider myself an independent Republican. I certainly don't agree with every part of their platform, but I'll continue to vote R unless something better comes along. Of the 2 main parties, they are making a bit more of an effort to try and realign and redefine who they are, but the jury is still out on whether this will be a success or a failure.
