But the reality here is that Trump won by 1.5 percent, the Republican majority in the house is 3 people, 6 in the Senate. Democrats do not have to do what has been suggested. Republicans are in trouble and while Democrats might have to work on fortifying their base instead of going after suburban white Republicans, the Republican party is in trouble right now and if Republicans in Congress want to keep their jobs, they will turn on Trump. Trump’s new commerce secretary, Howard Lutnick, confirmed Wednesday that the president plans to make cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, all programs that are popular with Republicans as well as Democrats. If Trump follows through on those cuts, Republican voters in areas like Balderson’s district could lose patience with Trump and the GOP by the time the 2026 midterm elections come up, and perhaps even in 2028.
